Was expecting this to be mind-blowingly good but sadly I'm pretty disappointed with this. The bread was fluffy and soft, but it was the same texture as the soft fluffy bread you can get from those really good neighbourhood bakeries. Sad to say I really don't get the hype. The matcha taste was just distinct enough to make a statement, but it didn't pack any exciting punch I was hoping for. The limited edition Acacia Honey flavour was really good though, even though it came at a much steeper price of $4 dollars. Wouldn't mind eating this again, but I probably wouldn't queue for it or travel all the way just to grab one bun. Guess I'd have to stick to my reliable $1 dollar bakery bread la haha.

If this toast doesn't scream 'eat meeee' I don't know what does. The hummus here is insanely good, being creamy and fragrant. That's the power of pure, homemade goodness. I may be really loyal to their nut butter, honey and sea salt (which is simply divine) but this savoury option also sits well in my books. On a side note, their Sourdough bread is soooo good but I see on Instagram that the owners are still trying to perfect their bread. Really goes to show their dedication and effort in making their bread. More for me please πŸ™‹πŸ»!!

Much needed break from all the studying 😱 Finally got my hands on their matcha cocowhip and they were really generous this time with their swirls! Glad to say I really loveddddd it. The consistency is creamy and it wasn't ice-y at all. Not really a fan of the nut mix (it's part of their boxgreenco $1 toppings) because I felt like it didn't go quite well with matcha ice cream, but their sauces are the bomb!

Salt?! You must be weirded out by this combination but I cannot emphasise how mind blowing this tasted. I'll willingly get high sodium any day for this. Together with the Hokkaido milk soft serve (get this together with the Yuzu salt, it taste like sea salt caramel ice cream) it was a seriously addictive combination. #saltbae me this cup and I'll be a happy camper.
P.s. Congrats to Matchaya to opening its second outlet soon at Dhoby!!! It means I can go down much, match, matchaya more often 😏

Made in a traditional stone oven, these glorious banana cakes were sublime. With their aromatic banana flavour, and the perfect balance of sweetness and oiliness to keep the sponge sufficiently moist without crumbling, this is the most perfect banana cake ever. Apparently, they taste better after one day, because the flavours of the banana intensify, but if they came piping hot straight out of the oven, I wouldn't mind devouring a few by myself immediately. The best part is the slightly charred, caramelised layer. Wish this was in Singapore, then I could buy it so much more often.

P.s. Courtesy to my wonderful siblings for queuing 20 minutes just to buy this back for me, just because I kept asking for them πŸ˜‚

Handmade Mochi found in Liang Court's Meidi-ya. Freshly made everyday by a Japanese man himself, it was chewy and sufficiently (though not overly) sticky with a good bite! Finally some decent Mochi in Singapore, after many bad ones I've eaten just to satisfy my Mochi cravings. Only downside is they are pretty pricey, at $2.50 per Mochi, though for 3 it'll be $7!

My favourite soft serve place in the entire of Singapore because the flavours are always so so so intense - which just shows how they do not skimp on good quality ingredients! I wanted my houjicha fix so badly that week- but they didn't have it (houjicha is my favourite flavour!) I specially did come down here to try their Black Sesame soft serve though - and I'm so pleased to say it is sooooo good (IT IS NOW TIED with Houjicha as my favourite flavour HAHA) It's just such a good punch πŸ€› of potent black sesame with the perfect balance of sweetness. I dragged my siblings down that day (because I kept raving about the soft serves when I went home, that my sister really wanted to try it for herself) and they agree that Matchaya serves the best Matcha Soft Serve in Singapore ☺️ They also said that the ice cream doesn't dilute in taste even after eating the WHOLE CUP. You can taste the intensity of the flavours up to the very last bite. Black Sesame soft serve was the bottom swirl, while Matcha was the top swirl. I recommend you get separate swirls to enjoy the flavours as pronounced as possible!!!

They started at Yishun Bus Interchange, and have since expanded! I went when they still had a free upgrade promotion, (though on second thoughts I would much rather just have 5 toppings, but the eager sales lady made it hard for me to reject the 7 toppings) and got popping jelly pearls, fresh fruit, granola and coconut! The good news is that their soft serves are completely vegan and they aren't very sweet, making it a healthier treat that you can enjoy with anyone! Would be better if they had more variety of toppings though, as most of it were just sauces and the same type but different flavoured jelly balls and granola. Don't be put off by the black coloured soft serve, it's infused with charcoal and is made with black soybeans which are supposedly more nutritious for you than regular soybeans, so eat up!

Ongoing Japanese Food Fair in Isetan, which means you get to have delicious Mochi pancakes! Each pancake has the word '福' charred on slightly on both circular surfaces, which you can request to be heated if you're going to inhale it there and then. They also have other flavours like chocolate 🍫!

I like to call this local artisanal 'mochi'. This is my the chewiest and most fragrant muah chee in Singapore, thanks to the copious amount of ground peanuts and black sesame. Eating this really does put your jaws to work - but in a really pleasant way. When they first pull the muah chee out, they dip it in shallot oil to give it more fragrance and allow the muah chee not to stick onto one's teeth while eating.

Rated 5/6 chopsticks from Makansutra, certainly you can't go wrong! Absolutely love this fluffy MJK with its generous layer of peanuts and the (sweeter) red bean paste. I see lots of office workers buying back 20 of these to share, because they are so reasonably priced at a dollar for one! The Uncle is also very friendly and smiley, being patient with my order of just one MJK. (when two office ladies in front of you buy 20-25 MJKs each, buying simply one really does pale in comparison. I've met before store owners who grumble when you buy less than their previous customers, but this Uncle wasn't anything like that. Instead he still served me cheerily and picked a big, fat MJK specially for me.) His store is very easy to miss, being small and sandwiched between a eating house's fruit juice shop and another bigger cafe/restaurant, but his business is still very good. I don't think you can find anything this cheap and value for money in CBD. Do not ever give this a miss while in Telok Ayer!

Newly opened in Serene Centre, the store occupies a small space, with hole-in-the wall vibes. Seating is all outdoors, so it's more of a take-away concept rather than an actual store. Really wanted to try this because it was HOMEMADE nut butter, and I can't resist anything slathered with nut butter. Also saw interesting items like Salted Chocolate Rye Cookies which I definitely will be back to try, as well as their naturally leavened donuts and sourdough bread. Despite looking simple, the humble toast was generously slathered in nut butter. The ratio of bread to nut butter was 1:1, I'm not kidding! Expect to wait for about a few minutes for the friendly staff to make and serve you the food, as everything is prepared fresh upon order. I whipped out my computer to finish up some extra work, and when the staff served me my warm toast he actually asked me whether I needed the Wifi Password and filled me a glass of water. I think Singapore's cafe scene is truly expanding, and options are simply endless. For me - service is definitely one of my main deciding factors on whether I would go back to a cafe again. And Woodlands Sourdough has ticked all my good books in terms of service and good food! Best of all, it's so near school for me, that I can pop by anytime!
