Basically a "burger" without the bun. There's a soy patty below topped with pineapple. And some mushroom and stuff in between. A bulk of it is just lettuce. This restaurant serves vegan burger and I opted for this because, well, low carbs. This doesn't make it healthier due to the few fried items within, including the patty hidden in between. Taste wise wasn't too bad but nothing spectacular. The vinegar comes with it for free and washes all the guilt of eating the fried stuff away as well. I guess I'd want to try other items since they look more appealing. Nonetheless, this is a good option to look at if you're looking for some animal cruelty food to fill your stomach.
This is the second tendon that I've tried, the first being the one from Don Meijin. With all the hype surrounding this tendon, I had high expectation for this. Though it kind of fell short as I felt that in comparison with Don Meijin's tempura, this isn't as crispy. I do enjoy having the egg and breaking it open to mix with the rice. For its price, I think it's packed with more tempura than the ones offered by Don Meijin. Can't really say that I like this though. Gotta try Tempura Kohaku next I guess!
This left my Taiwan colleagues craving for it so much so that they went back for a second round the day after we went. Quoting what they said, "we went to heaven!!!" Living up to the hype, their chicken is succelent with a tad hint of herbal flavor in it. The chicken, especially the skin (my colleague said so since I don't eat the skin) is soooooooo smooth and tender. Considering this is the restaurant, I really do wonder how the ones from the actual stall taste like!
Got it at one of the pop up stalls near The Float when I was popping by to check out the Art Zoo. I was too thirsty and saw these colorful drinks so I thought why not? Turns out that it's quite a delightful surprise, the juice tasted as thought they're straight out of the blender, undiluted. You're supposed it shake up the bottle before drinking it. The Big Bang consists of dragonfruit, guava, honeydew and blue pea flower but I mostly tasted dragonfruit after shaking up the entire thing. Not sure how blue pea flower would taste like in juice but from what I know, it doesn't exactly have much taste (mom always use them in rice). Now I'm curious as to how other flavors would taste like!
It may not look much but this is a bowl of goodness. Their hummus is SO GOOD, SMOOTH AND CREAMY. Some hummus comes with this layer of oil and this one doesn't have that at all, yet the texture is so smooth and comes with the strong fragrant of chickpea. I was eating it so slowly because I didn't want to finish it at all. The bowl comes with an assortment of fresh vegetables sprinkled with sesame and of course, the chicken. I love how healthy and fresh they taste. Not too sure if it's just me but the hormone free chicken does taste different from the typical chicken I've had before. It could also be the flavoring of it though, which I couldn't quite pinpoint but it seems to come in a slight shade of yellow. Oh well. THIS IS A MUST TRY. I ordered the Acai Smoothie and expected it to be in typical smoothie texture but it came more as a juice than anything else. Hence, I suggest skipping out on that. This was a good meal nonetheless and I'd return without a doubt.
When I first came to know this place, I thought it'd be a cafe since it's by the folks behind Populus Coffee and Co but it is in actual fact, a stall in FIVE Square. It doesn't really matter though as long as the food doesn't disappoint. I ordered the Pulled Pork Senate Bowl but you're free to create your own bowl where you can choose your choice of base, protein and add ons, typical of many grain bowls out there. For me, I found the pulled pork a tad too salty for my liking but eating it together with the three grain mix (pearl barley, quinoa and bulgur wheat) makes it a tad better, hence, definitely not the best pulled pork I have (I love pulled pork but it's hard for me to like this because it's really salty!!!) The wholesome grains, however, is something I wouldn't mind having more (despite being on, ahem, low carb diet). The barley is addictively chewing, which stands out the most among all grains in combination. Carrot and herb salad was refreshing and took that saltiness away else this bowl would definitely put me in despair. Roasted cherry tomatoes have that hint of roasted sourness that bursts in your mouth when you chew on it, not for those who aren't a fan of sour stuff I reckon. Oh, but I think they forgot to put the baby corn in my bowl and I didn't remember until after the meal. But I guess it's... okay... (I mean what can I do now that I've already finished everything and left the place?!) Anyway, I guess this bowl is not bad even though the pulled pork could have fared better, like, please do not put too much salt or whatever is causing it to be overly salty. Otherwise, it's all good. (And please don't ever let me roam around alone during lunch hour because I end up meandering off to Ann Siang Hill to plan my meals for the next few lunches which means I'm going to be broke af at this rate I'm going. I'm such a spoilt kid that I end up having expensive lunch almost everyday now.)
My friend was the one who had it but I tried the tuna and it tasted real good. Apparently she quite enjoyed her ninja bowl. So it must say something.
Japanese Curry Beef Cheek bowl with an assortment of ingredients. Opted for no base because my friend and I both decided that we'd try their sweet potato fries. The portion of the food was quite big on its own! And the sweet potato fries were enough to fill us up. The beef cheek came with a delectable aroma of curry in the air. It was flavorful with a light curry taste that wasn't too sweet that Japanese curry can prove to be sometimes. Break the onsen egg and mix with beef if you want to!
Bought it out of curiosity, thought it would taste as interesting as its outlook—maybe cool in the mouth or something. Sadly, it tasted like cereal balls, or y'know, fruit loops. Hence, this is my first and also last time buying it. (It's whooping $6.50!!!)
The meat was tender with a hint of the flavors that we've chosen since we ordered the 4 flavors pork. Wine, garlic, gochujang and herbs. I remember liking the gochujang one the most since the flavor is slightly saccharine and hence, bringing out the tenderness of the pork more than the other flavors. The squid was grilled just right by the waiter—not too chewy to the point you might wonder if you were doing jaw exercises. Perhaps it also has something to do with the freshness of the squid. It was quite addictive. Honestly, would go back if the price wasn't so steep. Nonetheless, I had an enjoyable meal.
It's not blueberry flavored if you're wondering, but a flavor called hascup, which is a special type of fruit only available in Hokkaido. It does taste like blueberry tho. This costs a whooping $8 but it's worth every single cent. The only regret I have is that the cup is a tad too small and my joy in indulging in the creamy milk ended earlier than I liked.
