Best pate in Singapore.

The pate was smooth, with a very distinct flavour from the chicken liver. Consistency was also ideal, with the right amount of liver to oil. Bread was freshly baked in house and very well executed. There was also a flavoured salt which seasoned the pate nicely and some pickles at the side which provided the acidity to balance the greasiness from the Pate.

If I had to pick on one thing, bread was too charred for my liking but this is probably just a personal preference.

Decent quality salmon, at extremely affordable prices. Used the beyond 1 for 1 and got 2 bowls for around 23 bucks. The salmon taste fresh, and the sauce they marinate the salmon with fits well. The sauce is soy sauce based, tastes like a wafu dressing with some mirin, oil and maybe some vinegar, giving a slight tang and sweetness. The oil helps with the salmon as the salmon was quite lean. Personal preference but the salmon could have been a bit fattier (maybe I was just unlucky)

One of the best teochew porridges imo. If you visit this place, be sure to get their:

1. otah - think the source it from the fishmonger in the wet market beside. It is really tasty and has large pieces of fish inside
2. Clams: fresh clams with a sweet tangy sauce that goes with it
3. 卤味:the stock sauce is really flavourful, their pig rectum (大肠头) is really clean, with a nice chew. Their meat is not over cook and has a really nice clean taste to it as well. Mix it with their chilli sauce!
4. Mince meat: their mince meat is slightly spicy, with some soybean paste sauce. Very deep flavours that go well together

Was intrigued at this option at first (char siew in a bar?) but glad I chose it. The iberico pork was sous vide for 18 hours, and this paid off with the pork being both tender, but able to develop the deep braising flavours from long cooking. Although not specifically for this, the garlic/gingerin oil was very aromatic (would be nicer if it packed a slight pungence, thought the flavour was too rounded). The pork was too burnt at some places, but I understand some people like that so I wouldnt call it a mistake. Overall very strong dish!

Very well done dish! Every component of the dish worked well together. The small prawns and ebiko went well with the base of capellini, bound together with a very flavourful prawn oil. The flavour of the shrimp was a recurrent theme throughout the dish, and its strong flavour definitely sat well with me! Only gripe is the portion is quite small, but for this kind of heavy dish I can see why... Will definitely be back

Ps. Pardon the picture quality the lighting wasn't the best

Reasonable bowl of beef don.

Bought this as part of a Burpple Beyond promotion (so this is $10). The beef was cooked to a good doneness (medium/medium rare), which is the most important thing actually. The sauce complemented the dish well, and plating was very pleasant. The beef was not cooked to order, or even kept warm, and thus had a bit of a stale taste, and a loss of juiciness. The meat was not the best in terms of quality, and felt like it had a lot of connective tissue, but they circumvented with making thin cuts. Also did not taste like wagyu as there was not a lot of intramuscular fat.

However, given the price, this is very affordable and worth it. Would come back if i in the area.

Quality Teh Bing. Tea is of the right strength for me, condensed milk complemented well by giving a good bodied taste suitable for its strength. They steeped the tea with the right duration, giving just a very slight bitter aftertaste from the release of tannin compounds. Toast was also well done, with a kaya that taste homemade, not so sweet and still slightly chunky.

One big negative point however was the service. The place was empty and they made me sit outside, where they were burning some offerings. When I expressed my concerns, they told me the inside was reserved for customers who came to eat (but really. In an empty restaurants). No matter how good ur tea is (good but not to say mindblowing), would hesitate to go back. Already increasing my risk of diabetes with the sweet drink, need not increase my risk of lung cancer. The tea was not bitter but their service definitely was.

Competition is tight in lorong 8 for char kway teow with as many as 4 char kway teow stalls. This, however is in my opinion the best. They also have the longest queue though, even though you may not see it as they have a queue system.

The noodles is well fried with enough wok hei, seasoned with the right amount of dark soy sauce, which combines with the noodles really well. Generally on the wetter side, but not the wettest around. Really really yummy. Cockles are also very fresh and juicy. Overall very well executed and balanced dish.

Mind blowing Hokkien mee!

As a self professed Hokkien mee connoisseur, and having eaten at countless Hokkien mee stalls, I am very particular on my Hokkien mee. This Hokkien mee is one of, if not the most well executed Hokkien mee in Singapore. The noodles were prefried well with adequate "wok hei" before being simmered in a very well made prawn broth. The right amount of starch was released from the noodles, and the entire dish had a very good balance. The ratio of yellow noodle to thick beehoon is higher than most places, giving a starchier, richer but more alkaline flavour, similar to claypot noodles, which isn't a bad thing.

Hokkien mee stalls tend to be inconsistent as each batch may differ in frying times and technique, but you are be sure that you will get a good plate from this place.

About $16, limited time only item, quite affordable given they give an entire lamb shank. The meat was fall off the bone tender, sauce complimented the meat well as well. The sides were decent, didn't increase or decrease my impression of the dish as a whole. Despite it being from a buffet line (IKEA) style it was plated pretty nicely and was aesthetically pleasing too

Costs $10 but used Burpple Beyond's 1 for 1

Was really impressed by this. Pork chop was cooked just right, with just a very slight tinge of pink in the middle (relax that's fine). The pork was moist on the inside, and crispy on the outside. Amazing dish. One thing that could be done better would be to change the sauce at the side, perhaps to a sweet soy based sauce (or even plum sauce), because the mayo sauce they provided did not go well with the pork.

Really good smoked duck pasta. I enjoyed the extra effort they used to char the smoke duck which went a long way. The sauce was really flavourful and had some umami to it, and went well with the pasta. Overall a very nice dish
