I've recently heard about this place selling some good authentic hakka style ban mian. Being a fan of handmade noodles, I had to come down to give it a try! It was not a wasted trip indeed and Madam Leong's ban mian is good as they said. We had the soup as well as the dry variation, and both were equally tasty.

The chilli dry noodles came with a delicious dark sauce and a dollop of mysterious paste that reminded me of this Malaysian chilli. A sunny side up was also served on the side, giving the bowl of noodles a nice touch of colour and some extra edge. Another commendable thing was the chilli sauce, a concoction that was tangy and packed a real punch. Use in caution, because a few drops are already potent enough!

As for the soup, it was slurp-worthy with stewed mushrooms, anchovy, meat and sayur manis that brought out a smooth and clear taste. Definitely will be back for more!

For $7.90 so worth it!! On some days you just want to treat yourself to a sinful plate of the classic fried fish and fries. Fish & Chicks wowed us with a big piece of fish that was seasoned well and featured a thin flaky tempura-like batter. We also enjoyed the fries which were fried to golden brown perfection and had a similar taste to wedges. The meal also came with purple cabbage coleslaw and some tartar sauce on the side to complement the dish.

Arriving at 香香面家, the uncle can be seen at work, making the wide strands of ban mian with his handy noodle machine. The bowl of noodles did not disappoint indeed, providing a good QQ bite. With a generous addition of mushrooms, minced meat and spinach, it makes one worth it lunch! Complete it with crisp anchovies and mix it all up with their fragrant braised sauce, sweet chilli duo. The combination - a tasty medley of flavours and textures that come together as one!

Unagi sushi has always been one of the classics that I undoubtedly order when I'm in for some sushi fix. This particular one at Itacho Sushi is probably my favourite by far! A thick slab of the fish coated with that glistening savoury sauce makes every bite a highly pleasuring one. Expensive price point at $3.20 but oh well that was sure worth it.

Sophisticated white decor and beautiful marble walls, the New York cake boutique is aesthetic and befitting of its elegant name. It was our first time there and it took us awhile to pick our cakes as we were spoilt for choice. Eventually, we decided on the signature mille crepes, green tea mille crepes and the gateau au chocolat. My favourite of the trio has got to be the signature mille crepe, a delicate cake built with layers of thin buttery crepe and sinful cream that was light and not overly sweet. The green tea version also had that same fragrant eggy flavours to it with a twist of green tea fusion. However, I felt that it was a bit too sweet and I wished the distinct bitterness of the tea shone through more. As for the last cake, it was dense and rich in indulgent chocolate with slices of nuts to give it that extra texture. Topped with smooth chocolate glaze to complete its look, it is one really good chocolate cake indeed. I look forward to trying their other flavours in the future, especially the earl grey mille crepe, an exclusive at the South Beach outlet. I find their special flavours every month an interesting and fun concept as well.

It seems Whathefish has recently moved from its former location to the new Vision Exchange building at Jurong East. This is awesome news for people who stay in the west like me! Being my first time there, I decided to order the classic cod fish & chips, plus an upgrade for truffle fries.

When my order came, I was delighted to be hit with that familiar truffle fragrance. The fries though average, were crispy and fully coated with the delicious goodness. As for the star of the dish, the fish was fresh and retained the right level of tender-firm texture. Crispy, thin batter on the outside paired with delicate cod and some creamy tartar sauce, it was a very enjoyable meal! The dish was also served with a side of salad tossed in tangy balsamic vinegar dressing to help refresh your palate. The only thing I would say was missing was a wedge of lemon for that extra zest. But for generous portions at $10.50 with no additional GST and service charge, it is definitely value for money that will make me come back for more! Another good thing is that the place also comes with air conditioning.
