A Toast To You! Brioche French Toast - $20.90 Had to give this one a try as it was a favourite on the menu, and it definitely did not disappoint! Slice To Meat You @peperonipizzeria is probably my go to pizza place right now. Their pizza crusts are simply stellar, and their toppings are topnotch. Better yet, they’re actually amazingly affordable too. Don’t believe me? Well, the prosecution would like to present the evidence here.⠀ ⠀ This, your honour, is a twelve inch half & half ‘Speciale’ pizza that’s priced at $30++. That’s right, it’s a premium pizza, and the Burrata & Prosciutto toppings share the perfect pizza crust that’s lovingly slathered with tangy tomato sauce with the Carne option. The Carne, as you may have guessed, is Peperoni’s twist on the timeless meat lovers’ pizza, and the Carne has pork meatballs, bacon & pepperoni on top of a luscious layer of melted mozzarella cheese. Marvellous meat, magnificent mozzarella, and titillating tomato sauce on top of a tremendous thin crust pie is always a flawless win, and Peperoni comes through with the gargantuan W.⠀ ⠀ As for the burrata & prosciutto...dude, do I really need to elucidate this any further? The same sublime sauce & melted mozza base now houses confit tomatoes, a generous helping of salty, piquant Parma ham, and colossal chunks of beautiful burrata. It’s creamy, cheesy, tangy, salty, and utterly umami, and that crisp dough base is the cherry on (or below in this case) the cake.⠀ ⠀ None y’all gonna get a pizza this. Fried Calamari Nicely deep-fried Calamari coated with a light crisp and airy batter. A good squeeze of lemon offsets the greasiness.

Large Pizza - 28sgd Half frutti di mare and half quattro formaggi on a thin thin crust. Seafood part had quite a fair bit of clams and squid, and the outer side is simple cheesy goodness. I do miss their salmon pizza that had been dropped off the menu.

Burpple Set Dinner $62+ While I was ecstatic to finally have a chance at trying Gastrosmith’s new private dining concept, I was also saddened to hear that this will be their final month at their current location in Katong i12. The good news is they intend to open in town sometime in the future. Their exclusive Burpple set dinner has got to be one of the best quality and value-for-money #burpplebeyond deals around, with 3 sharing plates for 2 and a substantial main each, all for the princely sum of $62+. Chef Dillon is the sole cook in the kitchen, and still he manages to execute astoundingly flavourful and well-balanced dishes across a broad spectrum of cuisines, all in a very timely fashion. First dish to hit the table is an absolute stunner – achingly sweet vine-ripened tomatoes over silken Japanese tofu, languishing in a bath of olive oil and barrel-aged balsamic vinegar. The sweet tartness of the the latter and richness of the former worked well with the lighter main components, with hints of citrus and the crunch of pine nuts adding delicious complexity. Taste: 4/5

Free-range Chicken & Chanterelle Siew Mai I’m always impressed by chef Dillon’s ability to consistently take Asian classics and successfully add his own personal twist to them. Who would’a thought of chicken siew mai, and that it would taste this good? The dumpling is so tender and meaty and is wrapped in a paper-thin skin. That would have been good enough for me, but here at Gastrosmiths good enough ain’t enough. The kicker is the deeply earthy porcini and truffle sauce that unexpectedly works amazingly well with the siew mai. This was the second third plate of Gastrosmiths’ exclusive Burpple set menu for 2, which is a steal for only $62+ for #burpplebeyond subscribers. Hurry before they shut their doors at the the end of May! Taste: 5/5

Delicious Unagi Tamagoyaki With Cheese Most people describe this place known for their custard puffs on burppler. But I was curious since tamagoyaki means grilled egg! I finally figured out that there are three ways to order tamagoyaki - ala carte, bento and value bento. Ala carte is a combi of 6 pieces of tamagoyaki with a protein - karaage, Kani, unagi, char siu etc. the amazing thing is you can ZENG your tamagoyaki with cheese or mentaiko for $2.90!! And you can’t do that with the bento sets (at least not stated on the menu). Bento comes with a protein, tamagoyaki and mushroom rice while super value bento comes with TWO proteins, tamagoyaki and mushroom rice. (Goes up to $14-15) my only grumble is where are the vegetables in the bento?? Can’t be a balanced diet if you only have protein and carbs and no fibers.. Of course, the best value of all is burpple’s offer of fry-yay bento for just $8!! Great if you’re looking for a full meal. For me, I just wanted a snack so I got the unagi tamagoyaki zeng-ed with cheese (YAY 😋). The unagi was seasoned just the right touch of sweetness and grilled with a little caramelized char!! And it went surprisingly well with my cheesy tamagoyaki. Which was amazingly soft and the cheese was melty! Also, it is still tasty after you reheat it in the microwave! 👍🏼 Can’t wait to try more variations and the mushroom rice!!

FRY-YAY everyday bento [$8] Available exclusively for the month of September, this special bento set differs from the usual options, providing the greatest solution to indulge in when you are spoilt for choices. Along with the signature tamagoyaki, there's also 2 pieces of chicken karaage (mine had 3 though 😁), 1 croquette and 1 tempura ebi served on a bed of umami mushroom rice. Do be prepared to wait for 10-15 min (depending on the crowd too) as the ingredients are freshly prepared and deep fried upon order. Though sinful, the variety of deep fried elements were done to a crisp and well breaded exterior. The chicken karaage was tender and succulent whereas the tempura ebi was fresh and juicy, with a panko crusted crisp exterior. The croquette too as well, had a golden brown exterior down to perfect crispness, withholding smooth, creamy mash within. Along with fluffy and subtly sweet Japanese pan fried omelette (aka tamagoyaki), the mushroom rice was flavourful with a pleasant earthy note, comprising of shimeiji mushrooms embedded within. . . . #burpple #smitteneats #smittenchoice

Sweetest Dealio! 1-for-1 Salted egg yolk popcorn chicken, superb-yummilicious-pasta (can't remember the name 😭) and southern fried chicken waffle... Absolutely delicious and irresistible 😍 Definitely a spot to check out if you're looking for something different from your usuals

Montana Singapore Nasi Lemak Waffle $16.50 Spiced Chai Latte $5.50 I was intrigued by the name of the dish in the menu Nasi Lemak Waffle. With the country in the patriotic mood, restaurants, cafes and even fast food are dishing out iconic and signature local infused items. As soon as the spiced chai latte was served, i could smell the aroma of the spice a distance away from the cup. There was a good balance between the spices, milk and espresso shot. So my expectations were high for the nasi lemak waffle. When it arrived at my table, i could have smelt a whole plate of nasi lemak if i was blindfolded. And the turn off came when i cut into the sides of the cutlet and see pink parts and i was sure there were even more in the thickest part of the chicken and i was not wrong. Highlighted that to the two staffs whom were chatting behind the bar and they apologised and offered to change a new plate. 15 mins later, a new plate was served and i could see holes on the chicken as the chefs wanted to be sure that it was fully cooked and i really appreciate that effort. The waffle was soaked in pandan flavor with ikan bilis topped. However, the waffle soften and was soggy after the chicken has been resting on it. Proceed to bill and staffs treat it as the uncooked chicken did not occur. Texted Montana on IG and even messaged them at their number on FB but no response for 3 days. Was quite disappointed with their non-chalant service attitude. #burpple

Pandan Fudge Cake Love it! Fudge may sounds very thick and rich in taste but this pandan fudge is good. It looks rich but taste mild. Cake is moist not crumbly-dry.

Tea Time Maybe I set my expectation too high, the cake was too sweet and dont have much of pandan flavour. Coffee was good though...

Black Forest Cake Black Forest Cake (1/2 kg - $68) I felt that the cake was quite moist and not that strong cherry taste tbh. The cake melted quite fast and it's better to put inside the fridge after self collection or delivery.

🔥Pure Chocolate With An Ouch Price Tag After trying the baby Pure Chocolate ($11.90) some months back, I ordered the Upsized 500g Pure Chocolate Cake ($75). Unlike the baby version which is all mousse, this one has a layer of sponge cake as the base. Milk Chocolate level 50%+ kind of sweet. Yes it’s a good chocolate mousse cake but a little *ouch* on the price tag *Note: my taste palate leans towards dark bitter chocolate at a sweet spot of 65%-72% cocoa. So please use that as a gauge of my taste perspective.

On Today’s Poor Service Have been here a few times and I absolutely love the chocolate soufflé. Today’s visit was disappointing. Was there at about 2.55pm, it was a quiet afternoon. 8 out of the 15 seats were used by the staff to wrap hampers. Two tables (out of 3) were almost done with their food. Staff told us to come back later, didn’t bother to take down our numbers or suggest we wait outside. (So if we come back in 5 min and the newly vacated table is occupied it’s a too bad situation?). Asked for the menu, staff pointed at the board with no explanation (so do they not have a menu anymore or just no menus in the day?). Service staff said the chocolate soufflé was not available and I had to ask when would it be (7pm), then we asked if they had the chocolate lava cake to which she replied, “not available” in her couldn’t care less attitude. There was nary a smile nor hint of apology of this (or any of the staff’s) face so I can only conclude they weren’t interested in serving us today. It’s such a shame because I really love their sorbets and chocolate soufflé. :(

Really nice handmade traditional kueh at Jalan Kukoh Food Centre, a probably less well-known hawker centre around! Tried Soon Kueh and Peng Kueh, and both were full of vegetables and glutinous rice🍚, really fragrant and good😌! The skin was very smooth too, though a little on the thicker side😬. Do note that it's best to pre-order first these through a phone call, to avoid disappointment when you head down☎️!

Soon Kueh To try on their kueh, you have to come during specific time as they don’t open the whole day. They only start selling their kueh in the morning from 7am till sold out and 3pm for another round. I hear that you could actually call in to preorder and collect it yourself. It is almost sold out when I came in the morning around 8am, prove that their kuehs are very popular; even it is hidden in this little neighbourhood. The skin was great texture with generous portion of ingredients inside.

Pandan waffle flat white Was skeptical of the name but this really surprised us with its distinct floral pandan aroma and almost buttery creamy finish. Bought a bag of beans home to enjoy and it was just as good as in store!

Brekki for champions Hearty and filling spread with sourdough, poached eggs, maple espresso bacon, tomatoes, mushrooms, baked beans, and pork sausage.

Eggs Benedict Went with the unique stewed beef option and enjoyed the perfectly poached eggs and well-marinated beef. The brioche was airy albeit dry, and could do with more hollandaise sauce or butter for added moisture to the dish.

English Cookie After closed for 2 years, it reopened again at ot previous last outlet. Ordered the Dark Chocolate Chip ($3.90) and it is less sweet compared to last time which is good. However, it has also become chewy instead of crunchy that I used to know. Probably would't come back again.

Matcha White Chocolate Cookie I think I always smell cookies from one of the shop (Ben's Cookies) when I was at wisma atria and wanted to try their Matcha White Chocolate Cookie ($2.95) someday. Until @huiyiblackillusion wanted to buy their cookies. So I felt that it's was quite sweet (due to white chcocolate) and barely have matcha taste. If you like sweet stuff with matcha, you can give a try next time when you all are at the area.
