There has been quite a number of gelato / ice-cream parlours that had been opening up all across the island recently — Waff Waff! is one of the new additions that had opened up at Blk 608 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5 which had taken over the former premises of yet another gelato / ice-cream parlour named DREAMY SKOOPS. Located within half of a HDB shophouse unit at the foot of the HDB block, it seems that Waff Waff! has did some works to the space that made the space theirs — while the works done to the facade is minimal removing the previous decals on the windows and replacing the former signboard, Waff Waff! has painted some walls within the store a hue of yellow for a slightly more vibrant and fun look that might capture the attention of families and younger audiences. The dining furniture does seem to have been re-used from the previous establishment, though the dining chairs have since been reupholstered with grey cushions instead of the purple ones that the previous establishment had used — the tables being configured to suit patrons visiting in pairs or groups of four (4). Waff Waff! is an establishment that focuses on its waffle offerings more than that of their gelato; they do offer waffles with standard batter or Mochi / Nian Gao-infused batter, as well as a line-up of Signature Cream Waffle. Beverage options offered by Waff Waff! includes a line-up of Classics, Milk Teas and Signature Fruit Teas.

Noting the signature offerings at Waff Waff! are their Signature Cream Waffles, we decided to go for the Mango Creme Waffle — one out of the four different flavours of the Signature Cream Waffles that they have to offer. The Mango Creme Waffle is described in the menu to come with elements such as Fresh Mango Puree with Mango Chunks + Cream. Patrons are also free to add-on scoops of ice-cream to the Signature Cream Waffles; our choice of the gelato would be the Osmanthus Oolong Gelato. The waffle that came with the Mango Creme Waffle comes in a stack of two squares; the Fresh Mango Puree with Mango Chunks and Cream being sandwiched in the middle; the scoop of Osmanthus Oolong Gelato topping off the entire dessert. The waffle here does come being a little bit more towards the soft and plush type; it also is noted to come with a hint of sweetness apart from the wafting fragrance from the batter itself; the addition of cream helping to provide a neutral note that bridges between the waffle and the Fresh Mango Puree with Mango Chunks that adds another dimension of sweetness to the waffles — the Mango Chunks further adding yet another textural contrast by providing a soft bite as well. The Osmanthus Oolong Gelato that we had went for was within expectations; the flavour carrying a hint of milk tea fragrance possibly from the inclusion of milk that is required to churn the gelato along with the Oolong tea, whilst also carrying a floral note whilst at it — the scoop of gelato coming with a consistently creamy texture throughout as well.

We also managed to pair up the Mango Creme Waffle with Osmanthus Oolong Gelato with the Iced Earl Grey Tea which was a decently strong brew that helps to cleanse off the tastebuds from the gelato and the Mango Creme Waffle pretty well. Being quite a simple establishment at heart, Waff Waff! is more of that neighbourhoodly spot that aims to service the residents around it providing them with a convenient spot to hang out for dessert rather than one that is built for a gastronomical affair. Its gelato is priced from $4.50 for a single scoop, with flavours of the premium tier requiring a top-up of $1 extra; the standard waffles in the meanwhile are priced from $6 onward, with their Signature Cream Waffle starting from $7.50. It remains to be seen if Waff Waff! is an establishment that is fitting for the neighbourhood that it is situated in considering how it is located within a mature housing estate that is also situated slightly further away from the town centre; a little bit of a quiet spot as well — only time will be able to tell …
