Ikura (Salmon Roe) (¥500) from Daikoku Kaisan. These added a popping, briny, and subtly sweet touch that paired perfectly with the other seafood.

Big Red Shrimp Sushi (¥1000) from Maguro Daikichi. The shrimp was succulent, large, and umami sweet. That juicy crunch when you bite into it screams freshness.

Oysters (¥1000) from Nakajin Fisheries. These were easily the best value. They sold 4 pieces for the price others were offering for 3. The oysters were big, briny, and plump, with a soft, bouncy texture that made for a tastisfying slurp!

Otoro (Bluefin Tuna Belly) (¥1000) from Sakashita Fisheries, known for their sashimi platters. Just look at that marbling! The tuna was rich, flavourful, and melted in my mouth, with a fresh, oceanic sweetness that was amazing.

Breakfast has never been more scrumptious than this. Sashimi and oysters for breakfast? Like who normally eats like this every day? I woke up early and headed to the fish market to catch the freshest catch of the day, all before they sold out and to avoid the crowds.

This medium-sized fish market, located at Tomari Fishing Port, is famous for its fresh tuna, and you’ll see fishmongers selling various cuts and grades of tuna at different stalls. The prices are surprisingly reasonable, with the lowest grade block of tuna starting at just ¥700. As expected, the fishy scent from a fish market fills the air but that's what makes a fish market a fish market, right? You can even watch the fish cutters processing tuna live at the back of the market.

After walking through the market several times, I first checked out what kind of seafood each fishmonger was selling, then did a bit of price comparison, and finally bought the most valuable products based on their quality and price ratio. This is how I scored my premium quality breakfast at an affordable price.

Here’s what I picked up from different stalls:

The fish market itself had very limited dining spots, and I also spotted some giant luminous clams. I wanted to try them, but they were massive, and I wasn’t sure I could finish one and not to mention the cost might’ve been a bit high.
