Thin Mee Kia-like Ramen We settled for this ramen restaurant and tried their signature ramen served with 3 types of pork ($14.90). Meat servings were generous but the noodles seemed a bit thin for what we are used to for ramen. Had both the garlic and spicy broth. Garlic was light but fragrant, whilst the spicy broth had a slight numbing kick to it, but lacked flavor. Topped up $4 to make it a set with crispy gyoza and iced lemon tea, both which weren't impressionable.

Black garlic tonkotsu pork shabu ramen ($14.90) 🍜 9/10 I had just slurped down the first spoonful when I had exclaimed, "Wow it's so creamy!" I was not expecting such a rich tonkotsu broth from this unassuming joint, which was part of Japan Food Holdings. If you're a fan of strong-flavoured and rich food, this delectable soup will really hit the spot! The black garlic was strong at first but mellowed out as I dove deeper into the bowl of ramen. Nonetheless, the broth itself actually had a dimension of sweetness to it, although I'm not sure it's from the broth itself or the shabu pork. Despite not having a choice of how soft you want your noodles, the noodles here were automatically served bouncy and firm. Though they do serve you quite a lot of noodles inside the soup, each strand was finely separated and went perfectly with the creamy, rich soup.

Fried Kway Teow From Liang Ji Consistency of the typical fried flat rice noodles and yellow noodles with egg, sliced fish cake, bean sprout and sliced Chinese sausage. Few cockles hidden inside. Local delights indeed.

Char Kway Teow From Liang Ji Definitely a satisfying portion of $4 fried noodles. Slightly wok hey, QQ texture, sliced larp cheong, cockles. Highly recommended local delight!

First time trying this rendition of carrot cake and I really like it! The cheesy floss elevates and modernises the traditional carrot cake. Katsudon lunch special Tonkotsu Kazan Ramen serves a really good lunch special at $10++ for the CBD working crowd. Whilst most diners dig into their ramen specialities, I actually prefer their katsudon. Each katsudon comes topped with eggs and onions simmered in a dashi broth and a huge piece of pork katsu cutlet. I wasnt expecting much to be honest but the katsu was really thicc and juicy with a nice crispy crust. And of course, don't forget about the free flow hard boiled eggs on the side! Psssst, keep it a secret but I may just prefer their katsudon to their ramen offerings!

Tonkotsu Kazan Ramen🍜 Went to Tonkotsu Kazan Ramen 2 weeks ago and ordered their Beef Sukiyaki Kazan and their Hot stone Chicken Katsu Curry Rice (Total ~$36 for 2 pax)😇 Overall ratings 8/10! Enjoyed both dishes but feels that it is slightly pricey. Would head back again when im craving for the Kazan soup😅

Kazan Shoyu Famous for their volcano ramen, I finally gotten a chance to try their specialty. The ingredients are put in a hot stone with broth pouring in, before they place a tube on top of it; which the smoke will come out from the top, making it looks like a volcano. I must say it is very hot and keep burning my tongue every time eating them. Lots of ingredients inside, especially the vegetable and ramen. The broth was very tasty. I found the portion was a bit too big for myself, couldn’t finish the vegetables at the end. Perhaps I would recommend to go with the small version instead. You also can request for a bowl of rice to go with them.

My favorite crepe place I’ve always enjoyed their Off the Bone crepe. A pity that the egg white wasn’t fully cooked this time unfortunately. The fig & camembert crepe was well done - soft, moist and it came with plenty of fruits and fig jam.

Galettes This is my first visit to Gather and the galettes (savoury crepes) are delicious! We had: ▪️Salami & Potato ($19) - Salami, sautéed russet and red pontiac potatoes, melted Brie and egg ▪️Mushroom ($18) - Sautéed portobello, white button and king oyster mushroom, rocket, mixed cheddar and egg ▪️Parma Ham ($19) - Italian Parma ham, mixed cheddar and egg The combination of the ingredients worked well and the runny egg tied everything together. The crepe is thin and the generous filling is a delightful burst of flavours. Enjoyed this thoroughly!

Burnt Caramel Crepe $15 Pricey for what it is, this is nonetheless a well-crafted crepe - svelte, silky soft and chewy. The drizzles of subtly bitter burnt caramel , dusting of confectioner's sugar and a pat of artisanal Bordier butter - reputedly one of the best in the world - come together in a simple but most gratifying way. Enhance this experience with a shot of strong espresso. - Taste: 3/5

Marinated Tofu Bibimbap ($6.90) A vegetarian dish that is both filling and tasty! I loved how the crunchy vegetables complemented the well-marinated soy-sauce tofu. I only wished that they had provided more gochujang, one saucer is definitely not enough for a spice lover like me! I think it would be alright to ask for more, since there used to be a bottle placed at every table in pre-COVID days.

Teriyaki Chicken Bibimbap + Drink Haven't eaten this in a long time and there was a deal for the set (rice + drink) on shopee for $8 (with $1 voucher to offset) so I decided to get it! Still taste exactly like how i remembered it with the crispy bits and mayo sauce. Still the best bowl among the others imo. The crisps just give it a whole new texture that isn't there for the other bowls. There used to be a side dish (radish kimchi, etc) but sadly, seems like there is only a soup. Soup was tasty with some beansprouts inside.

Fried dumplings & fried rice cakes My favourite choice of side dish here. What I really enjoy is the fried rice cakes - very special! Crispy on the outside and once you chew a few times, it changes to the usual sticky chewy feel. Fantastic sensation. Love it!

Sticky Date Pudding ($15) my friend praised me to order right dessert as it's quite not that jelak but it's quite filling tbh. my friend did eat finish half of date pudding even he already feeling full. But date pudding and toffee sauce was quite warm after serving. But date pudding was quite nice, strong aroma in smell & taste and complemented well to eat with toffee sauce. I did enjoy it more than chocolate blackout cake.

Double Chocolate Blackout Cake ($18) I kinda regretted that we didn't eat finish the chocolate blackout cake tbh. :") but its taste jelak until I just give up to eat :"( But overall experience I really grateful that my friend accompanied me to eat ps cafe for dessert. :") but then it's not worth it to order double chocolate bc it's not that great for 2 to 3 people pax. But the chocolate cake and sauce texture were 100% for luxury and also atas feeling that I would not explain further. Do i come back for eating chocolate blackout cake in future? probably not for now.

The Pesado ($14) Papi's Tacos offer a simple line-up of tacos that comes in a set of two. The Pescado has fried dory fish, purple cabbage, pickled carrots and smoked chipotle aioli, wrapped in soft flour tortilla. It was a mixed of vibrant flavours and textures as you get the crunch, the freshness and tanginess from all the elements, with a slight heaty spice from the sauce.

Burrito de Suadero ($24++, Bowl), Tacos de Suadero ($16++), Tacos de Pollo ($13++), Tacos de Pescado ($15++) Second time at Papi’s and it’s a casual alfresco setting at the Seah Street outlet. My favourite taco out of the lot was the grilled fish tacos because it proves a point that you can have a flavourful fish taco without having to deep fry the fillet. The evening’s soft corn tortillas came in different hues for the different sets we’ve ordered and made me curious if these were in-house made, overall the Mexican food here fare better on the flavors scale that masks the quality of ingredients at a palatable price point.

The Gringo As tacos are not sufficiently filling for us, we decided to order burritos and The Gringo caught our eyes due to its unique name! This dish is a chicken-based tortilla wrap with marinated chicken, cilantro rice, black beans, pico de Gallo and cheese! The chicken was slightly spicy and added some flavour to the burrito and we liked it! However, the flavour of the chicken and black beans basically overwhelmed the tastes of the other items, as we did not taste any cheese in the wrap. We also liked the fact that the burritos here were wrapped very tightly and served in a separate paper wrap, which made the dish really convenient to eat. Conversely, we would have created a huge mess out of the burritos served at many other restaurants! The serving size was pretty generous, however, and we were completely full after finish the burrito. It was way more filling than it looks! The burrito costs $15++, which is pretty standard for restaurant-grade Mexican fare in Singapore and you can be sure that you will get a food coma from this. 😁

Big W for XW Salad bars take me back to the glory days of Ponderosa & Sizzler, and they were one of the best inventions of the 20th century. Call it nostalgia, call it gluttony, but there’s no denying that salad bars are utterly brilliant. So when I heard that @xwwesterngrill unique selling point was that purchasing any entrée gave you full access to the salad bar, I knew I had to give it a go for old times sake.⠀ ⠀ During the date of my visit, XW Western Grill had a limited time special of Mentaiko Aburi Chicken Chop ($15.90++). It sounds sophisticated, but it really is quite simple. A juicy cut of chicken thigh fillet is grilled till it acquires a captivating char, and then a deluge of mentaiko mayo is applied on top and blowtorched. The mentaiko mayonnaise was slightly too creamy & not quite umami enough, but the sublime chicken chop more than makes up for it. The skin has become crisp, and the char adds extra smokiness to the already stunningly savoury chicken chop. It’s served with a side of fries, but I left most of it behind as I had the salad bar to explore.⠀ ⠀ The salad bar doesn’t just have salad and other delicious, must-have veggie items like coleslaw, creamed spinach, charred broccoli & carrots, and sautéed cherry tomatoes, they have sides too. Think sautéed mushrooms, potato salad, onion rings, sweet potato fries, aglio olio pasta and a couple of other carb options. All these carb & veg options in conjunction with the decently proportioned proteins make for a bulking brother’s dream, and good lord what wouldn’t I give to have XW Western Grill open up a restaurant in one of the three malls in Paya Lebar.⠀ ⠀ If any of y’all at @xwwesterngrill are reading this, this is a sign to take the plunge & open a new outlet with a full salad bar in one of the three malls surrounding Paya Lebar MRT. Thank me later.

It's alright... With unlimited free flow sides with every main dish orders, XW Western Grill is one place you can get the bang for your buck, although the quality of sides may not be ideal. I got the Chicken Chop with Black Pepper Sauce ($14.80) which came with a pretty large slab of chicken, which was well charred and was tender. The sauce reminded me of the kind you get from old school western food stalls. Fries were decent. As for the sides, most of them were nothing to shout out about, except for the mashed potato which was surprisingly creamy and buttery; quite enjoyable! I guess this is one place to get your no frills meal settled!

Cheap Sides Buffet They changed their concept since the last time I came and decided to give it a try. Even though it was a buffet sides, I didn't expect much from the mains. I ordered the Salmon Lemon Cream Sauce Spaghetti ($13.80++) which is better than I expect, there is generous amount of salmons, sauce is nice and spaghetti cooked to perfection.
