Beni-Imo Tart (¥216), is without a doubt Okinawa's most iconic treat, and a must-try for anyone visiting. Locally produced with pride, it's become the go-to souvenir that represents the essence of Okinawan flavours. Honestly, you can't leave Okinawa without tasting this tart, or you might just feel FOMO! The tart had a crunchy, cookie-like base that is firm yet brittle, perfectly complementing the luxurious purple sweet potato paste filling. The sweet potato flavour is rich and intense, with earthy undertones that add depth to its natural sweetness.

Gotten the Beni-Imo Soft Cream (¥360), which was rich, delicate, and sweet, with a naturally smooth and creamy sweet potato flavour. The eye-catching purple hue made it even more appealing, although it did melt a bit quickly in the warm weather.

After the visit to the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, the tour bus took us to the Okashigoten Onna Branch, a factory specialising in Okinawan sweet potato products. Here, you can observe the production process of their famous Beni-Imo Tarts through a glass panel, making it a fascinating stop for anyone interested in local delicacies. The factory also serves as a tourism shop, offering these sweet treats both for immediate enjoyment and as souvenirs to take home.

It was only after I returned home that I realised there’s a beach behind the shop and a restaurant on the second level with a sea view. Definitely something to check out if you're ever in the area. Great for snapping some scenic photos after indulging in the delicious sweets.
