Got to learn about the opening of the new Mr Eggs whilst scrolling around social media one day — located within the Cantine by Kopitiam food court at Level 7 of Causeway Point, Mr Eggs is the newest tenant to operate within the food court. Mr Eggs takes over the former premises of the now-defunct Bao Bao Xiang Claypot Rice which is situated right beside the stall serving up mini wok dishes within the food court. Whilst not being immediately obvious to those whom aren’t aware, the naming convention of some of the items that are listed on the menu does seem to suggest that they are still a concept that is by the same folks behind Bao Bao Xiang Claypot Rice, which is in turn run by JY Group that also operates brands such as Xiao Man Niu Mala Xiang Guo 小蠻牛麻辣香鍋, Mala Version 2 麻辣福味 V2, Monster Chili Mala Hotpot, 品湯居, 捕汤王, Fuji Izakaya Oyster Bar, Tokyo Ekiben and 福味 Chicken Rice • Soup. It is also noted that the social media accounts of Bao Bao Xiang Claypot Rice were also previously used by the Ai Shang 爱尚 brand. Mr Eggs is a brand that hops onto the bandwagon of the scrambled egg rice bowls that was brought to fame by the folks behind DanLao 蛋佬; being a Halal establishment, it seems that Mr Eggs have also did a bit of a twist on their scrambled egg rice bowl offerings— apart from the usual scrambled egg rice bowls, Mr Eggs also do offer scrambled egg rice bowls with mozzarella cheese, as well as a section of the menu that is entirely dedicated to Curry Scrambled Eggs Rice. Apart from the various scrambled egg rice offerings, Mr Eggs also offers a variety of Laksa dishes as well.

Mr Eggs does not describe on the elements that comes with each of their dishes; that being said, it can be observed from our order of the Curry Biscuit Chicken Cutlet Scrambled Egg Rice that it comes with all of the elements that they had promised in its namesake; the bowl of rice being topped off with a scrambled egg, whilst being plated with the Biscuit Chicken Cutlet above before being drenched with a generous load of curry gravy that drowns out all of the other elements within the bowl. Digging into the Curry Biscuit Chicken Cutlet Scrambled Egg Rice, we did find it to be pretty decent and hits the right spots for us despite some rather minute details that might boil down to being a matter of preference. Considering how everything has been drenched in a pool of curry gravy, elements like the Biscuit Chicken Cutlet have pretty much soaked up all of the curry gravy with the fried batter on the exterior being all soft as a result of absorbing all of that liquid — that being said, the amount of curry gravy also meant that there is definitely sufficient amounts of it to go with all of the rice as well; ensured that almost every spoonful of rice had enough curry gravy to go along. The curry gravy here is pretty flavourful despite its slightly runny appearance; one that comes with a stronger hint of the curry spices without being especially spicy — something that should work well for those whom are not so tolerable to spiciness in general as well.

The scrambled egg above the rice does come sufficiently moist, though we are suspecting if the scrambled egg here was more of a tornado egg rather than an actual scrambled egg that is typically served up with the Hong Kong-style scrambled egg with rice which is also the way that DanLao serves it as well. Whilst the texture of the tornado egg does suffer slightly from that of a scrambled egg, such difference does not come across as particularly distinct given the amount of curry gravy drenched above it. There isn’t a DanLao or DanLao-related establishment that is located anywhere around Woodlands, so the existence of Mr Eggs is probably the closest that one can get to have their cravings for scrambled egg rice bowls sorted out. The scrambled egg rice bowls at Mr Eggs are also priced reasonably against that of other similar establishments — the lowest-priced rendition of the scrambled egg rice on its menu being the plain Scrambled Egg Rice with no meats paired along at $5, while the priciest would be the Curry Chicken Drumstick Scrambled Egg Rice and Curry Chicken Cheese Sausage with Mozzarella Cheese This are both priced at $8.20 a bowl. Whilst the Curry Biscuit Chicken Cutlet Scrambled Egg Rice doesn’t quite give the indication on how their scrambled egg rice bowls are like without the inclusion of curry, the series of curry scrambled egg rice that they have does seem to hit a spot for us; likely one of those things that we would mindlessly go for if unsure on what to have at Causeway Point.
