Meadowsbrew

It seems like my neighbourhood at Ang Mo Kio is getting hype, with recently see this small coffee shop opened at Cheng San area.

The shop is located in a very unique place, occupied a small space at the side of the HDB block’s staircase. A sofa seat is available at the front.

I gotten the iced mocha, which I find it pretty strong with the taste as it mixed with coffee and chocolate.

The neighbourhood where Cheng San Market & Food Centre was definitely a hotspot for more hipster food options around Ang Mo Kio in its heyday — the area had since seen several of such establishments several number of years ago; think the likes of Next Door Deli and Murphy’s that had since shuttered. While the area has since been overshadowed by some others that has more to offer, the neighbourhood is still fairly relevant with good alternative scattered around in this day and age — this include old-timers such as that of The Pine Garden and Magic Kitchen, as well as new entrants like AM:PM CAFE. A rather recent addition to the neighbourhood is MEADOWSBREW — a new space that can be found situated in a shop unit located in between a coffeeshop and a stairwell leading up to the upper level housing units at Blk 532 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10. Considering how the shop unit in which it occupies is offset from the rest of the other shop units located along the same row, it does also mean that MEADOWSBREW is a spot that can be easily missed if one isn’t paying attention to their surroundings. With a shop space that is sized smaller than most of the typical shop units in the same block, it is needless to say that MEADOWSBREW is positioned as a takeaway kiosk — there is no space available for dine-in here. The space bears a clean aesthetic with the large use of white walls and wooden furniture and fittings for a simple look; the dual frontage does help in letting in an adequate amount of sunlight into the premises. We visited MEADOWSBREW during its soft launch phase; they were only serving up filter coffee, espresso-based specialty coffee, drinking chocolate be tea — payments are also through tipping basis only. That being said, we were being told that they do intend to serve up bakes and pastries as well when they go into full launch.

One thing that is rather notable about MEADOWSBREW that is worth a mention is how thoughtful they are as an establishment despite being just a hole-in-the-wall specialty coffee kiosk — it is actually worth noting that MEADOWSBREW does roast their own coffee beans that they use to brew their cuppa with; a feat for an establishment like theirs. We would typically go for the White (Hot) when giving any establishment a first try; that being said, we went for the White (Iced) even though this was our very first time visiting MEADOWSBREW considering the heat wave that our weather has become of the late. We thought that the White (Iced) that we had went for was a particularly well-executed cuppa — the cuppa does carry quite a caffeinated kick; the beans possibly being of a darker roast and carried a medium body that would do well as a perk-me-up with a flavour profile that can be described as nutty and earthy. Whilst we had only tried the White (Iced) during our visit to MEADOWSBREW, they do seem to be an establishment that is highly-focused on wanting to provide patrons an experience where the elements in their offerings are made from scratch; a showcase of their dedication, skills and passion for their craft — and with this, it is needless to say that we are looking forward to what else do they have to offer once they kick into full launch in time to come!
