I didn't expect this behemoth of an omelette which could have easily fed 2. The fact that it was stuffed to the gills with delicious crab lump meat and unctuous crab fat made it even more of a struggle to finish regardless of how tasty it was.

They do a mean Huevos Rancheros at @superlocorqmenu. It's packed with bright, punchy flavours and will satisfy without making you sluggish post-meal. They say you eat with your eyes first, and the purple pickled onion, green guacamole, red salsa roja, and the white and yellow of the sunny side up free-range eggs were a riot of colours that certainly piqued our appetite.

The superlative Super Brekkie Burrito comes crammed with pork chorizo, free-range scrambled eggs, sweet corn, quinoa, refried black beans, pickled onion, hash brown, cheese, chipotle mayo, jalapeño, and guacamole. Amazingly savoury, this beast will sate even the largest of appetites.

My jaw dropped at the size of this bad boy when it hit the table. Huge pieces of sublimely spiced, juicy and extra crunchy fried chicken sat on a pillow of fluffy Shokupan french toast that's deliciously charred around the edges.
I for one love the substitution of dry waffles with bread. I find it a better vehicle for the maple syrup and compound garlic butter, its porous nature allowing it to easily soak up all that flavour.

I can be wantonly gluttonous when the occasion seizes me, especially after a night of unbridled drinking. @supernovaforeva 's Steak Hash then, is the perfect antidote to the morning after. Meat and potatoes are elevated here, with 180g of succulent pan-seared striploin beef cubes paired with crisp on the outside, soft within potato cubes, married in a medley of kale and red onions that deftly provides crunch and acidity to the richer elements.
-
A duo of gloriously fetching sunny side ups sauces what's underneath when broken into and mixed in, adding to the luxuriousness of each bite. The green sauce is marvellous as well, with hints of mint and herbs coming through its avocado-eque creaminess that brings to mind an enriched salsa verde.

I appreciate the unique takes on brunch at @evanskitch, the chef has really put his personal stamp on the dishes here.

Slabs of glisteningly fatty char siew sauce-glazed pork belly slices are layered over a bed of perfectly scrambled egg. The meat is cooked for 36 hours until meltingly soft, then aburi-ed for a smoky finish.
-
Chicken floss, as well as scallion, furikake and chilli strands add a decidedly Japanese fluorish, but what truly takes it leftfield is the passionfruit sauce and pickled papaya buried innocuously under all the under ingredients, lending a tropical sweetness to each bite. Does it all work together? Not quite, as the almost multitudinous mix and match of components can confuse the palate at times. It’s a good dish overall, but a little editing could have gone a long way.

I quite liked this despite the long wait time of 20 minutes and the deceptively small but actually quite filling portion. You'll get 2 organic eggs nestled in a simmering pool of creamy cauliflower mash. Hidden under the surface, specks of smokey bacon and wilted spinach await to be discovered like sunken treasures. The hero of the dish though, are the succulent and juicy pieces of well-seasoned truffle portobello mushrooms that are a more than welcome replacement to meat.

With absolutely gorgeous and spacious interiors conducive for a relaxed brunch over drinks with friends, Supernova is a relatively recent addition to the East from the founders of sister outlets Apollo Coffee Bar in Serangoon as well as Neptune on East Coast Road. It's a much needed injection of fresh blood in the sleepy neighbourhood of Tanjong Katong.

Expect conventional cafe meals such as this Grilled Cheese with Pumpkin Soup. Whilst the former fared well with crusty sourdough overflowing with gruyere and mozzarella, we found the soup thin and lacking in flavour.

If the sight of this bronzed, flaky croissant stuffed with juicy roasted portobello and schmears of brie as well as truffle cream cheese doesn't get you hungry, I don't know what will. Additionally, the bacon at East Coast Commune is thicc as and worthy of splurging $4 more on for a protein-packed breakfast of champions.

A better than average rendition of avo toast with plenty of trimmings. Feta crumble, dukkah spice mix, pomegranate, earthy beetroot hummus and herb oil all contribute a variety of textures and tastes to the creamy mashed avocado over sourdough toast, for a healthy yet satiating breakfast. Add on scrambled eggs($5) to make it a full meal.

Always queues for days at the ever popular Five Oars, and no surprise since the vibes here scream Melbourne in both the interior design as well as the food.
-
The coffee here is good, as is the brunch-centric fare usually, but maybe we ordered the wrong dish, as I couldn’t quite shake the feeling of disappointment with the greasy rosti and viscid mushroom cream sauce. The saving grace was the slab of thick-cut bacon, but because all the ingredients were rich, it really needed at least one component with more acid to cut through the heaviness.
-
Hot tip - take a photo of the queue system QR code out front so you can scan it beforehand in the future instead of having to loiter at the entrance like a chump).

Luxuriously creamy, the bacon-speckled sauce swathes oodles of thick udon noodles in garlicky, cheesy richness. The salty ebiko and shreds of crispy kale go some way in counterpointing the decadence, but the furikake-crusted fatty salmon fillet as well as runny egg are akin to adding fat to the fire, however deliciously it might burn.
-
TLDR - very nice but jelak.
