Jayne Needs To Try
I'm sure I can't be the only person who has dug into a bowl of slippery wantons in hot and spicy sauce, a classic dish at several Chinese restaurants, and wondered why don't they serve it with noodles. Well, this was the first time I came across my thought fleshed out into reality.
Served with a small bowl of soup, the hefty portion of "la mian", "chye sim" and five large, juicy dumplings is sure to placate most growling bellies. I only wish there was more of the spicy, black vinegar-laced sauce to drown the noodles and wantons in.
One heck of a damn good sushi roll: sweet shreds of crabmeat and crunchy tempura flaked tucked into rice, draped with snapper sashimi, and dressed with yuzu and truffle sauce.
That dressing was THE BOMB. Never expected citrusy yuzu to go with truffle oil, but it was magical.

On a rainy day like this, I wish I could tuck into a steamy pot of this comforting Portuguese "porridge". It looks like rice, but it's actually made of homemade BREAD.
The bread is kept for a day so it stiffens and won't disintegrate too much when cooked in fish stock – it breaks apart just enough to form a "congee". Providing loads of flavour and a firm, meaty bite are chunks of bacalhau (salt cod) scattered throughout, while a raw egg yolk mixed in thickens and binds the dish.
Filled with mildly sour tamarind chutney and chilled spiced water, these bite-sized semolina puffs succeeded in whetting my appetite for the following slew of hearty Indian dishes. On a sidenote, am so amused that they are served in an escargot dish.
My passion for Mexican food runs deep and I wish the food scene here was huge on Mexican food like in the States, but sadly it isn't. Was on the hunt for masa harina to recreate tacos at home and a google search led me to Belmonte. Headed to pick up a tortilla press and couldn't resist trying their tacos because. You know.
TL;DR version: I have found legit tacos and everyone should go try this. Albeit heavier (compared to those I had in Mexico) because they're loaded with rice/refried beans and the proteins are doused in a heavier sauce, the flavour is spot on. The smell is also 👌👌
It's a little out of the way and Belmonte isn't a restaurant, but at $10 for 3, just have a quick meal or grab and go! (You can sit in actually. Plus points for the owner being really nice 😊) They have popsicles as well which I will try when I return (yes, planning for it even though I just left).
The two men who made the bagels here are outta of this world. Besides doing the basic well like the White and Black Sesame Bagel with Cream Cheese ($3.90), their own creative combinations such as the Porky ($8.90) is absolutely stunning. Any choice of bagel (additional $1 for cheese), ninja sliced sausages, tomatoes, melted cheese and a sunny side up egg will definitely make you come back for more. I'm hooked.
I fell in love with savoury beancurd when I tried it in Taiwan. So glad that mr bean is currently selling it in their stores with sit down areas. Yum. It actually makes for a hearty lunch!
New place to eat BKT in air-con comfort. Interesting sauce made with cuttlefish. The pot of pork ribs comes with two pieces of pork belly. Free flow soup! Compared the songfa, the dough fritters was softer and soup, less peppery. About $17/ person, including 2 sides and drinks. Worth the calories:)
absolutely l-o-v-e-l-y
Don't think you need to think twice about trying this $18.80 set! Look at the generous amount of sashimi!
