Murphy's, an established brand from England that's been frying up fish and chips since 1967, has just opened its first Singapore outlet in Ang Mo Kio. The place here looks nothing like a greasy diner though. It's designed to be a stylish cafe complete with good coffee on the menu too.
The classic "Murphy's Fish and Chips" ($16 nett) uses arrowteeth fish fillet which has a nice flaky texture. At the soft opening today, I found the batter to be a little oily. But the soft spoken owner was very earnest in listening to feedback and said he'll work on improving it. I really like the authentic taste afforded by the malt vinegars specially imported from England (both original and onion flavours) which I splashed liberally over the fish and fat chips.
After my meal, I had the highly-recommended Mocha ($6). According to the barista, this full-bodied blend has a gentle acidity, the sweetness of milk chocolate and a lingering bittersweet finishing of cacao. My tastebuds operate on a simpler basis: they just found it marvelous.

Im no fishball noodle foodie but this was recommended and gosh.... You mean I have been missing out on this since they started in 1969? (No sure which location). Yes. Pork lard with meepok done just right and I understand the fuss about the fishballs now. Bouncy, springy and that clearly is why the aunties are ordering his fishballs in advance for CNY despite it being a noodles stall. Solid. Big regret not trying it earlier after always being waylaid by the bakchormee, wanton mee and pork porridge. Those are splendidly done too. Just go for the queues and you will find these gems. Ang Mo Kio St61 Blk 630 hawket centre. This stall is at #01-75

New joint! Takeaway ice-cream made fresh. Good luck guys!

Always top notch. Personal combination? Braised large intestines and trotters washed down with the savoury kiam chye soup. Prepare to queue 20-30mins during lunch. In fact, one should always combine this with the braised duck just 2units away.

Not to be compared with the more famous SG versions like xihe or paradise, This is a good option for $68 bucks for the full duck n

👍 as always. Crispy skin. Juicy meat. Perfect with the mustard.

The funniest thing is this. I stay in the vicinity of a few "famous" prata shops and whenever I visit Srgn Gdns, prata is never on my mind. It is usually chomp chomp, the good stuff at the market or Hanwoori. Finally I decided to give R K a try after walking past the place for umpteen times. OMG. What have I been missing all these years? The version served here is the combination of the "coin" prata at thomson but the size and crispiness of the one at Casuarina. Fluffy prata fans, this is not for you. Did I mention abt the maggi goreng or mutton curry which came in a bigger portion than any other shops I frequent? Im coming back. Maybe for the Murtabak or Roti John and all

Hidden away in a quiet neighbourhood within Seletar Hills, this plain dark looking restaurant was a surprise find. I only tried 2 items. Ribs and the pasta. Go for the pasta! The chardonnay cream sauce was surprised me and the chicken thigh was well-seasoned. Perhaps my original expectations were low but IMHO, pasta is worth coming back for. Ribs is so-so. I rather go Jerry's if in the vicinity. Probably a good lunch place for those working nearby, set lunches, ample seats. Parking requires some luck

What can I say. No longer a best kept secret. Queue can be easily 30mins and above at dinner-time. Great value and taste for the price and food rivals the top thai restaurants. Must try, Tom-Yum Gong, Mince Pork with Basil Leaves

Found an authentic Italian restaurant near home. Great pizzas, pasta and nice humble selection of wines
