korean
left this place feeling like the fried chicken was very typical (still nice, but nothing special) BUT the kimchi stew… SO SO DELICIOUS and addictive we kept helping ourselves.
another A++ korean meal!
we got the set which was so much more value for money!
- tangsuyuk (came with fried lotus root and crispy noodle too, you can pour the sauce on your own)
- jjampong (savoured every single sip)
- jjajangmyeon (one of the best i’ve tasted in singapore)
- bossam (pork belly was cooked to perfection and in such thick, tender slices!)
our conclusion was that it was well worth the money we paid :)
i wrote in another review about how much i love ajumma’s so i won’t go too much into my love for it here.
- crispy samgyeopsal with scrambled egg on rice: delicious!! elaborated in another post so won’t do it again
- kimchi pancake: was a little oily but i liked that there was a distinct sour-spiciness of the kimchi that you could taste through the pancake
- army stew: also a very classic dish that never goes wrong, with baked beans, spam, hotdog, vegetables, kimchi, enoki and maggie. i however prefer the kimchi pork stew!
so for some reason, 3 of us wound up ordering the same thing (rabokki). looks great but it turned out to be slightly jelak when we started eating it as the sauce was more sweet than it was spicy… which did not really fit my savoury palate. 6/10 but i don’t mind coming back to try the other dishes
rose tteokbokki - was one of the more affordable and filling options here. loved the chewy tteokbokki in the spicy sauce (with a tinge of rose flavour)
we got the:
- jjampong (pictured)
- jajangmyeon
- tangsuyuk
the jjampong was definitely my favourite - we were trying our best to get every last sip! (even though it packed a bit of a punch in terms of spice)
i LOVE ajumma’s - it is pretty much my korean comfort food place 🤍 so my reviews may also be biased, but i also feel everything i’ve eaten there is AMAZING.
- crispy samgyeopsal with creamy scrambled eggs: never goes wrong, love the thick chunks of crispy pork belly together with the creaminess of the scrambled eggs… HEAVEN. but if you have a small appetite please order one to share because the portion is HUGE
- kimchi pork belly stew: this is my ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE because the soup is SO flavourful… i love kimchi and this stew is going to be heaven for any kimchi lover. love the pork belly slices in it too.
- fluffy steamed eggs: it is exactly like what it sounds like - very fluffy steamed eggs. can’t go wrong there.
- soy garlic chicken with crispy topokki: it can sometimes be a bit dry but i love the topokki especially with the sweet soy sauce
- omija hwachae: so refreshing and a palate cleanser after a full meal!
overall 9/10
