local/hawker delights
this is our 2nd time eating zuzu and the quality + portion is consistent. we ordered the butter rice w chicken and the chicken kebab. very generous w the portion, the owner gave loads of chicken, seems like there’s more chicken than rice (not complaining)!!! the meat is very juicy and perfectly seasoned. though the wait is long (but he has someone helping him now), it’s definitely worth the wait!! can try out other food or drinks at the hawker center while waiting :)

!! the address says yishun, but it’s in AMK! !!
this was a really good bowl of authentic hong kong wanton noodles! the noodles aren’t the same as mee kia, it’s the distinct thin noodles you can get when you eat at a restaurant/eatery in HK. its very qq and al dente, just the way it should be! the broth is clear yet super flavourful, the wantons are quite huge (much bigger than singapore’s wantons, but still smaller than those in HK), and the chili was 💯 for a moment i felt like i was transported back to HK heheh definitely recommend trying this if you’re missing HK noodles! i personally find that its nicer than mak’s noodles 🌝 the coffee shop it’s located in is just opp mayflower MRT and its very clean :)

Compared to their neighbour/competitor(haha) Authentic Mun Chee Kee (AMCK), this place serves a relatively clear and hearty soup. The porky taste is not as strong as AMCK though. They give generous amounts of offal and their meatballs are made in house too. They do serve other dishes such as vegetables and vinegar pig trotters. I’d give this a 6.5/10 for the pig organ soup! You can give it a go if you happen to be around the area :)
This place is our go-to for affordable and delicious claypot dishes. We ordered the sesame oil chicken (with chilli), the sambal sotong with lady fingers and homemade ngoh hiang. They are generous with their portions (there was a lot of sotong and chicken!!!) and the sauces are not too salty. In my opinion, the ngoh hiang was only average tasting. But we would definitely go back for their sesame chicken, which is their signature dish. :)

I’ve never been a fan of Singapore-style BKT as it can get a bit too peppery for my liking, but I think this BKT has a really good balance, not too much pepper (though you can still see the pepper sediments at the bottom of the bowl) and not too herbal-y! The broth isn’t porky as well, for people who are sensitive to the smell/taste, the garlic in the soup helps to cut any gaminess. We had the ribs, which was fall-off-the-bone tender! The large portion gives you a generous serving of 4 ribs (with a good amount of meat on the bone). Really good comfort food, especially after you’ve been overseas for awhile. :)
