THIS IS THE BEST TAKO BALLS IN SG. Take my word for it. Ditch the Wow Tako we see in malls. Just TRY IT.
Gindaco is a chain from Japan 🇯🇵 The tako balls from the SG outlet are comparable to the ones in Japan, I must say.
First, the balls are huge. Like unlike any tako balls I’ve ate in SG. ⚽️
Imagine this: biting through a crispy exterior into a soft pillowy batter. Not like the typical tasteless batter. The batter is super tasty and gingery/oniony. And the octopus is huge, plump, fresh and tender. Everything is in the right amount - crisp exterior, soft & tasty interior with a good amount of octopus. Pure bliss 🐙
Decent but not the best. Relatively generous with the amounts of unagi - pretty thick and substantial! Rice was drizzled with unagi sauce which made it really tasty. Would recommend if you have an unagi itch.
Cheap and good! Was surprised how tasty this don was. Unagi was drizzled with unagi sauce. It was soft and not overcooked. Rice was covered with eggs and onions. Simple and cheap way to satisfy my unagi cravings.
The unassuming store was tucked in a corner of Fortune Centre — a very quintessential feature of a good Japanese restaurant. I was immediately drawn to the shelves of Sake, a rare sight in SG.
Chef has a bubbly disposition, and it was interesting to see her bounce around the kitchen to get the food served to us.
They offer free sake tasting, which is definitely an experience.
I was pleasantly taken aback by the first dish - uni and king snapper noodles (see top right picture). Everything was very fresh and sweet. Some other highlights include the sashimi platter, ikura don and truffle unagi. I immensely enjoyed the freshness of the ingredients and the interesting fusion of different foods (such as the truffle on unagi). Would definitely revisit!
Came with very high expectations given how highly raved man man is, but expectations were disappointingly not met.
The unagi was relatively well done and soft, but I felt like it was a tad bit overcooked. The exterior wasn’t crispy as I anticipated given the mass reviews I see raving the skin. The taste wasn’t as smokey as I’d like, the inner part of the unagi was rather plain. It’s still a decent unagi, but it definitely didn’t meet the man-man expectations I had. Maybe that’s why there wasn’t a queue at the Duo outlet.
I was pleasantly taken aback by the soup, which was infused with yuzu. The light citrusy taste adds depth to the soup, which made it very delicious and special.
The wasabi was freshly grated, and went well with the rice and unagi.
Overall a decent meal, definitely will head to the original outlet for a comparison :”)
Finally tried the unagi that had been on the news for some time. My first thought was “well.. the unagi is really small...) I mean I can’t complain right because I ordered the small size but 🥺
The unagi is nicely charred and soft. I really enjoyed the 3 steps to eat this unagi — made the eating experience fun and experiential! But the unagi overall was nothing to shout about. It wasn’t as smoky as I’d like it to be, which is one thing that I really look out for in a good unagi. Must admit that it’s really affordable! Would definitely not mind Una Una to satisfy my urgent unagi cravings on a tight pocket.
Hands down my favourite piece at Genki. Prawn is humongous, fried to perfection. Biting into it just brings so much joy because it’s so crispy!!! And it’s really juicy and a good bite to the prawn.
The plating first caught my eye - a quintessential Japanese style, so simple and neat!
The crackling of the chicken was deafening. The chicken was really crispy, juicy and really fried to perfection. The curry sauce was also fragrant and packed with curry flavors. It had some bits of onions and carrots (wished there were more of them!)
Would recommend if you’re craving for good curry rice at affordable prices.
Good tendon - a wide array of ingredients. But the one which really caught my attention was the prawn heads. They were really succulent and crispy and flavorful. A very unique addition, since I haven’t seen it at other places! The batter is also very tasty and of a sufficient layer over the ingredients. The chicken breast was slightly dry, (slightly only!!!!) but overall still a good chicken breast as it was very well-seasoned. Chawanmushi was also not bad. But in my opinion the suntec one still fares better in terms of taste :)
