Cafes & Coffee
Dishing up good coffee, cosy ambience and friendly service, this Lavender Street newbie checks all the right boxes. There's no rush here — the bar does the concept of slow coffee justice with relaxed vibes and a small menu of just five blends on rotation. Get them to recommend a Filter (from $6), or order the White ($4.50) for a small, creamy dose. They all come in incredibly sultry, nice-to-hold cups.

Set within a serene co-working office setting, this Kyoto-born brand gets our vote for churning out both stellar matcha and coffee. Melding the two at a perfect ratio, the off-the-menu Dirty Matcha ($6) sees their Matcha Latte spiked with an espresso shot. The result is a beautifully balanced drink — smooth, subtle yet wildly fragrant.

Having recently expanded with a flagship store, this tiny takeaway joint in International Plaza still gets the crowd in lines for joe on the go. Burpplers love the Dark Matter ($5.50) exclusive to this outlet — the chocolatey blend goes amazingly well with soy milk for a rich, creamy combination.

When out in town, escape into quiet Everton Park for winning drinks at this standing coffee bar. Sporting the smell of freshly roasted coffee and a communal bar table to huddle around for coffee and conversations, it's no wonder Nylon is so well-loved. Come for an Iced Black ($4) — a cool, bright cuppa to fuel you on your day.

Open from 7am till 7pm, this neighbourhood bakery next to Empress Market is perfect for breakfast pitstops or teatime drop-ins. If you're lucky, snag their Insta-famous cruffins ($4.50 each) that sell out fast. Standouts include the PB&J and Lemon Curd. Otherwise, you'll be satisfied with any of their available pastries, including the delightfully flaky Kougin-aman ($4) that is coated in caramelised sugar for a perfect crunch.

From the same pastry chef behind Flor Patisserie comes this humble Japanese-French pastry shop that sells elegant treats to-go in Tanjong Pagar Plaza. Be sure to try the Mille Feuille ($6.80) where layers of puff pastry, fresh cream and raspberry jam are topped with fresh strawberries. For a unique creation, the Luna Wrap ($6) sees lightly whipped flavoured cream (mango, chocolate or blueberry) cradled in a pancake.

Come by early if you wish to get a taste of the tempting goodies this bakery has to offer. Their delicious Plain Croissant ($4) ticks all the boxes — fluffy, buttery and crispy with incredible layers. Their Almond Croissant ($4) might just be the best around. Stuffed with not-too-sweet cream and flecked with from sliced almonds, it's not to be missed. Not to mention, it goes fabulously with hot black coffee ($4).
