Sweet Nothings
Cozy little ice cream bar in a quiet neighborhood centre. We had the golden waffle with 2 scoops of ice cream. The waffle was good and ice cream decent.
Finally got my hands on their croissants on my third trip to this bakery at Joo Chiat! The croissant was flaky and buttery. It certainly did not disappoint. Can’t wait to try their other pastries ... that is if I’m lucky enough to get my hands on them!
Enjoyed the waffle and ice cream very much! The topping of salted caramel sauce with sprinkles of lavender flowers was a nice touch.
Sweet banana filling in buttery pastry topped with a layer of fragrant desiccated coconut and crunchy nuts ... the combination is simply wonderful. Don’t miss it if you are in the area!
Highly recommend the Lime and Basil Tart which has a great balance of sour and sweet plus a nice hint of basil. The signature dark chocolate tart tastes nice, but nothing unique.
This 10-month old stall has some pretty interesting ice cream flavors such as In-Kueh-dible (salted coconut & gula melaka), Orh-Bee-Good (pulut hitam), guava sour plum, and sugarcane. Tried the In-Kueh-dible and Orh-Bee-Good and I liked both .. creamy and not too sweet.
A small cube of brownie for $7.50. Overpriced and it was more cake-like and crumbled very easily.
The tart with bittersweet dark chocolate was good, but the pour over coffee was acidic and too light for me.
After eating the chendol in Penang, it’s going to be hard to find equivalent ones here. What I like about this red bean chendol is that it’s not overly sweet and it’s better than what you get at many dessert stalls. But it lacks the oomph for me ... sigh, I think the food in Penang has spoilt me. 😅
A nice light milk pudding with fragrant ginger juice. The peach gum with lotus seed, white fungus and milk was less inspiring.
The best out of what we tried: White fungus papaya with almond paste, and mochi balls with peanuts!
