Value For Money & Burpple Beyond

I absolutely LOVE the coffee at Maxi. I’ve been here twice, the first time I tried the coffee shake (which was crazy good by the way, please try it) and the coffee tonic. This time I decided to try the cereal milk latte and the dirty latte (chai latte) and both were really good. I love the coffee at Maxi - it’s strong, robust and flavourful, exactly what I look for in any coffee place. Really nice vibes and service as well.

Read some reviews about this dish and couldn’t resist the temptation to try it. Although chocolate & beef papardelle sounds like a strange combination, this dish was actually pretty good! The chocolate flavour of the papardelle was relatively mild and definitely nowhere near overpowering. The beef was really tender and the sauce was rich in beef jus and a slight hint of red wine. I still prefer the duck confit tagliatelle but this is great too!

Loved this dish so much! South Union Park was the perfect place to have dinner on a chilly Friday night. It was cozy and homely and pretty much packed with patrons when we dined here. The pasta sauce was packed with flavour and yet light enough on the palate, the duck confit pieces were given in a really generous portion and were incredibly tender. Super value for money with burpple beyond!

I really enjoyed both the chocolate and matcha cookies here. I had the blue chai ice cream which was lightly flavoured and just fragrant enough, and my partner had the cereal milk flavour which was pretty impressive too! My only gripe is that with burpple beyond, you have to order the set which includes tea, and it makes it a little less worth it. Still pretty good desserts here though!

Ordered the smashed avocado on toast and it was really satisfying. I loved that they smeared some smashed avocado on the toast before piling it up with larger avocado pieces, and the crispy pomegranate seeds on top were such a nice touch. The tomatoes were fresh and sweet as well. For the prices here (they don’t charge service charge and GST) and the nice airy cafe space, I think 28Wilkie is really worth the visit. Truffle fries were good too!

The scrambled eggs here were delightfully creamy and piping hot, and the portobello was huge. We added on a homemade sausage and it was pretty good too! The only part that disappointed was the bread - it tasted rather dry and powdery. Maybe a soft fluffy brioche or a nicely toasted sourdough would be better?

Had the truffle pizza with bacon and egg and this was really good as well. The truffle taste was really strong and satisfying, and the crust was delightfully fluffy yet chewy as always. My favorite pizza here would still be the parma ham & burrata one but this one cuts it really close as well. I would really recommend this place for pizza!

One of my favorite pizzas ever is Pizza 4Ps in Vietnam, and Zazz pizza really reminds me of theirs! The crust is just soft enough with a slight chew, and the Parma ham & burrata pizza was absolutely to die for, with generous servings of parma ham and a delightfully creamy burrata. Only gripe I had would be the ambience - it’s a really casual place that isn’t photogenic. But the quality of food here is so good, I’m willing to let that pass.

Back at One Man! Love the gashouse eggs here - soft chewy cheese with a runny egg within fluffy brioche bread, with bacon jam at the side. I really enjoyed the French toast here too. The caramelised bananas were an excellent touch, and the fruits and berries were fresh! Only (tiny) gripe would be that the toast could be a little more moist/wet.

This was great! I loved the creamy scrambled eggs and the perfectly flaky (but slightly less buttery) croissant. The pork sausage was pretty juicy, but the bacon was rather disappointing and we ended up not finishing it as it was dry and rather hard. Overall, still a very value for money brunch offering.

This dish here at Eleven Strands is high on my list for best beef cheeks I’ve tried. The beef is incredibly tender and soft, having been slow cooked overnight and marinated well. The accompanying mash and sautéed potatoes were great too. The food here is really value for money, especially with burpple beyond’s 1 for 1. Food was served really promptly as well!

I had the red crabmeat pasta and it turned out rather disappointing, especially after I read some really good reviews of this dish on burpple before visiting. I felt that while the crabmeat portion served was decent and the linguine was done perfectly al dente, what was disappointing was the sauce. The sauce was too tangy and tasted strongly of tomatoes, with hardly any crab flavour. The sauce could also be much more creamy, as I found it veering towards the thin side. If you’re looking for crabmeat pastas that are creamier and thicker, other casual, similarly priced joints such as Da Paolo, La Nonna or Rookery serve up some pretty good ones.
