Melaka
📷 In frame: Pandan Gula Melaka Pancakes
For those unfamiliiar with the hotteok or Korean pancake, it is a panfried pancake commonly stuffed with fillings ranging from Nutella to veggies. I was reminded of hotteok as these pancakes from Daily Fix were filled with Gula Melaka soaked coconut shreds. Unlike hotteok though, these pancakes were not panfried but cooked on a griddle.
✨ I thoroughly enjoyed how there was a nice balance of saltiness and sweetness. The filling had a very strong coconut flavour.
💬 However, I wished the pancake itself was more fluffy and with more pandan flavour. The dish seems to be quite controversial as two of my friends, both dessert lovers I might add, were not fans. My other friend and I who prefer savoury dishes over sweets, on the other hand, enjoyed the dish.
Other than pancakes, nothing really appealed to me on the menu. I would recommend Daily Fix for the Instagram-worthy interior and the funky pancake flavours only.
I fell in love with the quaint space that is Sin See Tai, its pink tables, and sweet wafts of roasting coffee beans. The entire cafe fits a maximum of 16 people, warranting a minimum order of at least one item per person. Diners are seated upstairs while orders are taken downstairs where the cooking and coffee brewing takes place.

Caramelized Banana and Bacon Waffle
✨ My first bite of waffle and I knew I was before the waffle gods. In a matter of minutes, the plate was wiped clean by my friends and I. The waffle had a crisp outer with incredibly light, fluffy and airy insides. Just the right balance of salt was present in the waffles too. I reckon caramelized bananas and bacon are my new favourite savoury sweet combo-- they just complement each other so well!
💬 The dish reminded me of RONIN (SG)'s savoury french toast which is similarly topped with banana and bacon. However, I feel Sin See Tai’s waffles are a cleaner, more refined version. Unlike Ronin’s syrup and grease-drenched french toast (don't get me wrong, there's absolutely no problem with that), these waffles weren’t nearly as sinful (which meant I could have a lot of it!).
📷 In frame: Chicken Rice Balls
✨ This chicken rice dish was just so-so. I don’t really get why shaping the rice into balls make the dish better. Rather, I think it makes it drier. The chicken was slippery and tender but I’ve definitely had better. The chilli, like every element of this dish, was just sub-par as well.
💬 If you’re travelling to Melaka and would like to give this dish a shot, by all means, do so. It is, after all, something you can only find in this part of the country. Don’t expect it to be something to shout about though.
