Ordered Burmese Shan Tofu, along with another side that has quinoa in it. It came along with sides romaine lettuce and baby tomatoes. It was average tasting. Certainly not the best, but it was quite affordable as it costed less than $10. But unlikely will be eating it again. Didn't enjoy how the romaine had a weird taste to it.
Ordered a Matcha Tahini cake slice along with our meal. It was light tasting, and had a sponge cake like texture. Super fluffy. It was not to my liking because I would have preferred my cake to have a stronger matcha taste, and if possible, dense, as it would add more bite to it. Not a bad cake though, suits those who do not enjoy a strong matcha taste in their cakes (practically could not taste any matcha-ness in it)
However, would definitely revisit to try other items on their menu!
Finally had the chance to head down to the long desired Grids & Circles after such a long time to try out their highly raved dishes! Definitely had to try what they are famous for - Tamago Sando and their Salmon Ochazuke bowl. Must say that it is one of the best cafe meal I have ever had. Their Tamgo Sando was warm, light and fluffy. They were every generous with the portion of the tamago, which was thick and fluffy. Their bread, in my opinion, was average, but it was the pear sauce and konbu mayo that made the dish stood out. It tasted a little buttery as well, but overall it was a egg-cellent meal! The chips and greens which were paired along with the sandwich was ordinary? Exactly what you would expect from chips and greens. But their Tamago Sando definitely made everything worth it!
Moving on is the Salmon Ochazuke. My gosh my gosh! As someone who rarely eats rice, I was initially reluctant to try this dish. I mean, how special can it be? I had tons of rice bowls before, and seriously, they were NOTHING like this bowl of Salmon Ochazuke. It may initally turn some people off with the idea of pouring tea into rice? But this tea is nothing you would expect. It isn't light tasting, neither did it taste very greeny. I guess it's because they used bacon dashi green tea, which added a note of savouriness into the dish. The rice was mixed with tiny ikan bilis in it, and when u poured in the tea, mixed everything together, BAM! THE UNAMI GAME WAS STRONG! The salmon tasted fresh and was not overcooked (which may result in toughness in the meat). My friend enjoyed how the salmon skin remained crispy even after the tea was poured in. Talk about cooking skills. Every mouthful you could literally taste the flavour of the sea , and I am not even kidding. Before you know it everything would be cleared off the plate. The portion was just nice not to cause you to bloat, but enough to make you feel satisfied.
On the side note, we purchased a cup of matcha latte which was disappointing. It didn't have a strong matcha taste. My friend and I both agreed that we were literally just drinking milk.
My friend also went to purchase their Earl Grey and Matcha Macaroons (I don't fancy them too much in general) and told me it tasted good, with a rich tea taste. But for me, nah.
To sum it up, I would definitely revisit to get back the same dishes I had. Would probably opt for tea options the next time round :D
