I have an awful weakness for full-flavoured gelatos, and this hit all the right spots. Rich, just a little rougher in texture but no less creamy. Some of my favourites include their “Sea Salt Caramel” (pictured behind) and “Hazelnut” (pictured behind). I was delighted to find that the sweetness was kept to a judicious level. But their “Mocha Chocolate” (pictured in front) carries the day for me: sensually dark chocolate beautifully suffused with espresso that came through so intensely.

The waffle was well-ornamented but unremarkable. I also found the half-hearted streaks of maple & chocolate syrup perplexing. A decorative gimmick? Do I eat it with my waffles? No one could be sure.

That said, I found solace in the silver lining: this velvety soft-serve. While a tad sweet, it was suffused with flavour (a rarity for soft-serves). The striking aroma of tea was matched by equally strong notes of lavender. In essence: an ambrosial touch to an otherwise plain dish.

A generally unimpressive dessert. The froyo was much sweeter and less zesty than I’d have liked, but it wasn’t objectively bad. When paired with hazelnut sauce, caramel biscuit crumbs and brownies chunks, it actually makes for a passable dessert. But what’s bad is the lack of anything distinctive in the charcoal flavour, and this detracts heavily from its novelty. Doesn’t taste differently from what others have to offer. Doesn’t beckon attention. It’s a pity, because this means it’ll quickly be outcompeted – by other froyo joints with far more propitious locations.

Hailing from Hokkaido, Japan, this joint serves the most divine gelato. It is wonderfully creamy and intensely flavoured. If it helps, they use only farm-fresh Hokkaido milk and eschew all chemical additives. This means you don’t have to feel so guilty about ending your jaunts around town with a decadent dessert. An effortless personal favourite!!!

Recommended flavours: black sesame, dark chocolate, matcha, milk tea, milk.

What to expect: hazelnut chocolate soft serve base crowned by chewy biscuit crumbs and a drizzle of Nutella. I’m ambivalent. It’s respectably chocolatey but it’s too sweet. You can literally feel the deluge of sugar dissolve on your tongue. Flavour wise, this is only pedestrian: comparable to a run-of-the-mill supermarket chocolate ice-cream.

💭 Can try! It’s Halal!

I couldn’t quite make out the tangy, quintessentially Thai flavour, but then there’s no question it’s tea I’m tasting. Nevertheless, it’s an impressive rendition – for $1 no less!!!
