Let me use another word - it is extremely CHEAP. I ordered quite a selection and it is only $10. $2.50 can get you a meal for 1 pax. The soup is savoury and the ingredients are all carefully prepared and they serve tender meat. Decent meal if you are nearby and wanna go carnivore but Toa Payoh has plenty others to offer. Opens from 6 pm and expects a queue as it is popular with many residents. One of my favourite rojak stalls is this one at Blk 401 KPT Hougang, opposite Punggol Park (yes the Pokémon crazy hougang coffeeshop!). The food at the KPT at this block is just gorgeous. After eating rojak that day, I tried their chicken rice and got a pleasant surprise. Their meat is succulent and tender and taste great with the generous dose of garnish. A bit lacking in chilli punch and rice is okay but then it is not Boon Tong Kee and is priced cheaply too. I must say, I am impressed by the arrangement and the food itself is nice and soooo colorful like rainbow 🌈! You can add more ingredients such as seaweed roll or prawn roll and others. The seaweed roll I had is $2.20 making the entire plate $5. Pretty affordable for a good plate of wholesome vegetarian indeed. And what makes a vegetarian stall even better? It got the traditional "lor" (gravy)! Yums! Other good CKT will prob be Zion Road, Outram Park (Hong Lim) and Hill Street (Bedok). Deliciously cooked and you can smell the wok hei, it is delicious with good amount of hum and lard. The only thing is I got to queue for half an hour at least but well it is worth the wait especially so if you can get a plate for only $3! Opens from 5.30-10 pm. This has been around for many years and is very popular stall. They offer generous portion of fish and soup is tasty. Their speciality is their Maggie Mee fish soup, something unique and all for $4.50. The friendly elderly couple has since retired due to health reasons and now the stall is manned by the daughter and husband. Still as good i feel but I miss the cool uncle! Closed on Sunday and Mondays and good for lunch from 11 am onwards.
