The hip aesthetic might have drawn me to @dawnkissa, but the quality coffee and in-house bakes is what will keep me coming back. I had their iced white with oat milk and it was one of the smoothest cuppas I’ve had in a while. That said, the homemade Pandan Gula Melaka Cake was divine! Heard firsthand from the owner that they go through a tedious process of extracting the pandan extract themselves; giving it its distinct colour and fragrance.
@tofumagician.sg didn’t have an hour long wait today! Managed to get my hands on these in just ten minutes and happy to report that their freshly churned soy milk really does taste different; full bodied, creamy and naturally sweet. The chewy White Jade Balls coated in cream and soybean powder were also yummeh. Would I queue an hour for it? Probably not, but if I can get a quick fix, you’ll definitely catch me getting a cuppa.
Had to head back into office today, so took the chance to enjoy the lunch hour a little with @hvala_sg’s yummy hand whisked Japanese tea drinks! This latte starts with some houjicha syrup, milk then topped off with matcha. Smooth and refreshing, perfect for a hot day like today. 🍵
Got this effortlessly delivered the other day, and I’m really enjoying the Probiotics Brown Lemonade Syrup. Just a spoonful with tonic water for a super refreshing drink; not too sweet with a slight hint of funk. Yet to try the kombucha yet, but if it’s anything like the rest of their drinks, I’m sure it’s gonna be good!
Talk about good timing, @upsidedowncoffee has just soft launched their second outlet named Shift right outside my doors! Specialists in syphon coffee, expect more consistent and intense flavours from this brewing method thanks to the degree of control it provides to the barista.
Got to try the La Promesa; Colombian beans that have undergone cold fermentation under 10 degrees, this coffee had a very light funky ‘fermented’ bean undertone that I quite enjoyed. Of course, there’s the usual espresso based coffees as well for when you’re not feeling too adventurous! You can find this small takeaway coffee joint on the first floor of Southbank (Lavender) and they’re currently operating on a tipping basis.
One of the prettiest shops to sit and chill at, Hvala at 111 Somerset is what you’d imagine when you think of the word ‘zen’. The houjicha latte was not bad, toasty and milky, but did have some of those particles that tickle your throat (made me cough a little, which isn’t the best time for that considering the virus situation). 😂
A simple tasting latte that’s easy to drink in a minimalist white cafe with high ceilings. Strikes a nice balance between the coffee and milk, though I think I rather something a little stronger.
Another coffee specialty spot just opened, and I’m glad to report that the joe is gooooood! This was pulled from beans from Bearded Bella which had chocolatey notes.
They don’t really serve food, but you’ll find some tarts that while rustic, went very well with their coffee.
A new tea bar along Tan Quee Lan Road (taking over Kajiken), they feature tea pulled from a special espresso machine with quite a few fruity flavours.
One of their must-tries, the Pear High Mountain Oolong is refreshing and just the right sweetness! After they extract the tea, pear purée is added to give it it’s fruity flavour, so expect some gritty bits. While not cheap, I’m still looking forward to trying more of their yummy sounding flavours!
Love Yuan Cha for their legit teas. This one combines a roasty Alisan tea with milk for a smooth drink. Added my favorite QQ Taro topping for delightful little chewy bites.
This spot outside the new Paya Lebar Quarter seemed pretty impressive, but unfortunately felt that the coffee tasted flat and watered down.
They use cold brewing for this, so it’s meant to be light, maybe it’s just my preference for strong coffee.
Been a while since I’ve had CSHH’s coffee, and now you can get a cuppa their joe over at the hip new Funan mall. Prices are a notch above their usual, and I think it’s the same blend (tastes like their Nuts and Bolts), but that’s what a mall does to prices I guess.
