fork tender pig knuckle for dinner at the very humble outfit, currywok. well balanced fatty bits and soft meat makes the dish highly enjoyable without being queasy. just be careful with the rice intake. potential rice thief here. lol. seen with chap chye ($9) and ngoh hiang ($10)

The Curry Wok is one of the most underrated restaurants in Singapore. This family-owned restaurant serves local cuisine with signatures such as braised pork knuckle, curry fish head, Nonya chap chye, ngoh hiang, Hainanese pork chop, otak otak, rendang and pictured, curry chicken with potatoes ($9). The chicken was oh-so-tender and the curry was thick and fragrant, ideal to have with rice. What we love about the food is that it's good and it has the home cooked feel. Definitely a place to try when one comes back from a long stint overseas.

so much so for no rice dinner. how to no rice when the chap chye ($9) is so so good! the stew mixed vegetables is plumb juicy and a comfort veg sweet that you want to drink it up like a soup! the ngoh hiang ($10) and their home marinade fried chicken wings ($9) are worthy of praise too! a pity it was just missus and me. otherwise the pig trotters here is a must sure-order.

I don't know about you but a home cooked meal easily beats a two Michelin star meal for me. Simple dishes like pork chops, ayam kecap manis and chao chye with a kickass sambal belachan easily makes for a super satisfying Saturday night dinner.

For me, this Peranakan rice set is nostalgic of my school days. After some time apart and revisiting the dish recently, the combination of the 3 different dishes never fail to comfort my tastebuds. The fried fish fritter is not too oily and the fish to breadcrumbs ratio is just right. The chicken in the Ayam kecap manis was braised well and the meat was still chewy and does not disintegrate as what one expects from most braised dishes. The sayur lodeh balanced the mainly protein-packed dish and lends a spicy factor to the dish. The rice was drenched with the different sauces. The portions of this dish are huge especially for (ravenous) girls and would be perfect for the guys! Overall, a perfect peranakan blend of dishes! Ps: Definitely give their sambal chili a go!! It lends an entirely different kick to this wonderful rice set!

I love this place for its homely food such as the Chap Chye and tender Curry Chicken 😍. Feels like home! 很有家的感觉。The service is very good - in terms of customising my set meal to 2 chicken dishes (thank you so much!) and the attentiveness when we wanted to foot the bill! Thanks for the wonderful experience :)

Nothing beats having a plate full of everything I love - the nyonya chap chye, curry chicken and crispy pork chop. This never fails to hit all the right spots every single time I have it, and always reminds me of my grandfather's cooking.
