Brunch is to weekends like how bacon is to pasta and French toast.
💫
Been a while to @onemancoffee . While prices have increased over the years, a Gashouse Eggs (bottom right) is $13 now v. $10 last time, happy to be able to use @burpple 1-1 there.
The mushroom aglio here packs a punch in spiciness. French toast was just a tad on the drier side, and more for those looking at a plainly sweet rendition.

Love their balanced white coffee (only $4), made using beans roasted by the World Barista Championships winner. They usually use Common Man beans, but are featuring these beans just for this weekend.

Lots of daylight, pretty white and brown hues in the lovely surroundings, which just puts ones in a chill mood. The pastries are baked by a friend apparently. Pick the cinnamon roll, which is reminiscent of the Tiong Bahru Bakery Kouign Amann with its buttery flavours and skip the scone.

Really love this hearty breakfast...molten eggs with cheese is baked to perfection. Delicious spinach, smoked salmon, cherry tomatoes and avocado 😋😋😋. Topped up with toast to complete it! 🍳🍅🥑🍞

Crispy, truffle tater tots ($8) which come with a sprinkling of Parmesan and side sauces of addictive truffle mayo and sweet chilli that's actually spicy. The whole combination is fab. Throwback to our Sembawang-stretch hop.
💫
On the other hand, the coffee pulled is quite light. Nothing to scream about, as with the other offerings we tried of Wazzle.

Didn't know that the dessert chain has a cafe spot, and one that serves up some very decent grub. Particularly the Steak and Eggs. Slightly over-salted, but still, every cut is juicy tender done to a medium, and full of flavour.
💫
We also had toast with prawns in laksa ($15). Don't ask why we picked it. Luckily, also very decent. Egg white scramble ($14) on the other hand could use a bit more salt. With potatoes and generous Parmesan. Warm ambience, and it was crowded when we visited yesterday (Sat). To be safe, best to take a leaf from the book and reserve.

Smoky, with a good, springy chew and most of all, that luring aromatic char of the grill. Simple appearance belies the complexity in achieving the end texture. Review of this warm, Australia-inspired bistro along the now-hip stretch South Beach on the blog. herpenandfork.blogspot.sg

The aroma and flavours in this mac n cheese ($16.50) is like the pull of the cheese itself, irresistible. A simple dish with two ingredients, but often hard to get right. This little diner got the elements pat with al dente macaroni and a savoury, velvety cream that is just that right level of slightly overwhelming. The sprinkle of pepper in the sauce lends an appetising zing.
💫
The Truffle Fries ($9.50) weren't bad too, though the texture was a slightly-weird chewy (hand-cut fries?). What was surprising was the cute gesture of a little hand-written sign they put on the table for reservations with the person's name. Makes for a nice touch of difference.

Dainty settings, just like in Wonderland. A cut of Butterscotch Banana Rum, with only its middle name embodied in the flavour of the dense cake crumb. And walnuts. At $8, maybe just go for the better-faring coffees/tea lattes.
💫
Mocha with balanced bitter-sweet tones; iced popcorn Matcha latte with a buttery whiff to the Matcha finish and iced chai latte that takes an acquired taste, just because it's chai.

The dishes at our brunch today were akin to alter egos of each other. The Loaded Taters ($13), which we crunched on non-stop with the mini hash browns and maple-glazed #bacon doused in nacho cheese, sour cream, hot sauce proved wayyy addictive. Amazingly, we could really taste the maple in the glazed bacon. And then a masqueraded healthy spicy garlic salmon poke bowl.
💫
Just like 2 different personalities on the spectrum, but still getting along swimmingly.

Smashed avocado with chilli salt on grilled sourdough, topped off with a poached egg.($12+$3) 💫
This Mexican institution is a little outta the way for those taking public transport, still, there was a good crowd on a public holiday lunchtime. Understandably, as the food - if the breakfast burrito of spicy marinated chicken and scrambled eggs and this toast is anything to go by- hits the right spots. Smear the avocado with the mint leave, which provides a zing, mixed in on the toast and the yolk mopped up.

Matcha Pancakes.

Had high expectations, but it fell short unfortunately. Matcha flavour is there, but the pancakes were too dense. They could be more generous on the red bean ice cream to balance out the dryness. The accompanying vanilla cream is superfluous, though it's concentrated in flavour. Their savoury mains fared better.

Matcha-loving? #Matcha almond croissant ($3.7++). Matcha baked into the croissant layers within, topped with almonds.
💫
Usually yes to matcha, but not so sure about this sweet rendition of their signature croissant. The sweetness kind of masks the buttery fragrance of the croissant and it was slightly crusty too. Was psyched to try, but I think their original and kouign amann fare better. The flat white ($5.20) here is more acidic that the one had at their other branch at Tangs. Note that this is the only outlet where they charge ++. Probably won't pick this again, felt like I ate a sugar house.
