Only left with Chicken wing ($3.50) and Lobster ($22) at 11.30 even though opening hours is till 1-2pm. Disappointed as we went down for the Sotong Goreng. Still like the sweet sambal & the spices on the fried chicken but the ikan bilis has more than 50% just the ikan bilis head š.
The prawn soup is legit! Not like super thick but you can smell the prawn smell from the next seat when the noodles came. The har cheong gai is tasty but it would be better if its crispy. The claypot rice crisp up nicely with the heated claypot. Overall will come back if there is short queue and I'm around the area but will not come back just for it.
Discovered this fish soup yesterday & here I am today again even in the lunchtime heat! Reached around 11.30 am & there's already a queue (even yesterday around 1pm the queue is still there). Fried fish sells out early so better to go early if fried fish is preferred.
The broth is super sweet & no fishy smell (added milk). Fish soup with extra fish or mixed (incl meatball, sliced& fried fish, pork, pork liver, a ton of cabbage) cost $5 each. The fish is taste fresh & shiok when dipped in the lime chilli! Fried fish is still crunchy when I ate it even though it was in the soup. š Love the new find !
Small kueytiao noodle cost $6. I would recommend to go for the soup version. The soup nicely Flavored & beef slices are done nicely not tough. Will not recommend the dry version as its quite plain.
The kuey was really smooth & soft compared to those I've eaten before. The intestines was extremely chewy though, more chewy than usual.
Xiao Ya Tou ambience is really nice with Chinese lanterns & umbrellas on the ceiling of the restaurant. Really friendly staff & food nicely executed! Price range is however a bit on the high side for food like Hokkien mee & char kuey tiao. Hokkien mee taste really good but wouldn't be somewhere I will frequent due to pricing. Chope is having a promo code for free Hokkien mee with minimum spending so remember to book from that app! ;)
Queued for the Raved Prawn Noodles for around 20min on a Sunday morning. Soup taste not very prawny but quite seafoody like white bee hoon. Soup is same for all prices just that $24.90 got lobster & more ingredients compared to $5 basic bowl.
Now laksa comes with a packet of chili & a disposable plastic spoon. Small laksa is at $5+. Taste still good but disposables are quite turn off
Seafood White Beehoon from ęŗēęµ·é²ē½ē±³ē² (#01-06) is available at $6, $10 or $15. We had the $10 portion to share between two of us and there were 4 prawns, clams, white cabbages and pork lard. Loved the abundance of sweet seafood broth and that attracted passerbys constantly asking us which stall we bought this from!
This was served with chilli padi but I wished there's the tangy sambal style chilli instead ā that would be perfect!
Waited for at least 30min for my plate of prawn mee... Although stock is tasty, feel that it's less tasty than the one at Kim Keat..
Thick rich broth & tasty noodles! $10 portion can be shared with 3 small eaters! Quite worth a trip if you are around the corner.. Didn't wait too long but remember to get the utensils yourself..
