Yanxi Dimsum & Hotpot is a banquet hall turned restaurant with a dual concept of dim sum and hotpot.
Their dim sums are crafted exquisitely and delicately, and I would say a little different and unique from what you can get outside.
Some of my favorites included the 3.6 Hokkaido Milk Charocal Egg Tart, Mapo tofu in crispy beancurd skin roll, crispy gold dusted black tofu & Quail egg & bonito flakes siew mai.
Special mention about their Hokkaido Milk Egg Tarts which are freshly baked on the spot. It has a warm, creamy, smooth and milky filling which burst right in your mouth as you bite into it. On the other hand their Mapo tofu in crispy beancurd roll is also amazingly good. The mapo tofu has the 麻 & the 辣, yet it’s not overwhelming. It has a refreshing kick to it.
Not the most accessible place, and they used to have a lot more dim sum options on their menu previously. But those 2 particular dishes will probably be what I will crave from there if any!
Instead of the thin usual circular egg roll piece, this bun provides a little sweet eggy and custardy flavor to the crispy beijing duck, at the same time lessening the greasiness as you put it into the mouth. For the remaining duck meat, you can choose how you would like to cook it. We chose the stir fry with black pepper style, which is surprisingly not bad! The black pepper was rather fragrant and the duck meat was still tender.
Another alternative for Asian food with a twist! Flavor was on point with the Mee Tai Mak fully absorbing the dark soy sauce and XO sauce. Fire was well controlled with some chewiness to the Mee Tai Mak and no trace of mushiness. Not only that, surprisingly the daunting pungent taste from the usual century egg became mild or almost absent after the deep frying. Quite a simple dish but filled with flavors of home.
If you love some fats to your char siew, you'll love this place! A good layering of fats within layers of meat gives the meat a soft chewy texture retaining its juiciness and moistness. Drooled with honey sweet sauce that was good but found it a little stingy on the amount given.
Chewy springy noodle with mid joint wings well marinated to the core with savory soy sauce. Topped with a sunny side up and a couple of green crisp leafy veggie! Nothing too fanciful but bring some warmth to your stomach.
Sweet tomato ketchup fried rice with each grain well defined by itself. The accompanying Macau chicken chop was so crisp on its skin with its meat remains juicy, tender and warm. Perfect delish match of both!
