They call it 'fried ice cream' but the frying part actually refers to the motion they use to prepare these cute little rolls of ice cream. Using a vanilla flavoured ice cream base, they mix in two of your flavours of choice (banana, strawberry, lychee, chocolate, Nutella, mango, Milo and maple cornflakes) with griddle flippers. The mixed ice cream is spread thinly over a frozen surface, then rolled into 2-inch-long logs.
The ice cream is light and fluffy from the aeration introduced during the mixing process, and a real treat because by the time you eat it, you're likely to be feeling hot and clammy and dripping in perspiration.
I highly recommend my combination of Nutella and maple cornflakes, which wasn't too sweet and left a pleasant malty aftertaste. Rainbow rice is a must, of course; I opted to have this without any sauce, but you can request for chocolate, strawberry or maple syrup if you like.
If you're planning to head down to the Ramadan bazaar, make Happy Rollies your first stop because you'll have an hour's wait in store. You can place your order, grab a queue number, then browse and grab other chow at the stalls before returning to pick up your ice cream.
