Pretty surprised with the duck confit here. Le bf said it could have been seasoned more, but I thought it was just nice. Not too oily or overly salty like how it's done at some other places. The mashed potato came seasoned with truffle oil, which may not please everyone (such as le bf), but I thought it was not bad. The duck jus, although slightly bland when compared to the other components of the dish, helped to combine all the different elements. Overall, a pleasant dish that I don't mind ordering again thanks to its wallet-friendly price point, especially when using Burpple Beyond 1-for-1!
I always have a soft spot for beet root and so I found it easy to pick this dish from the options available. While I wished for more smokiness from the beets, I enjoyed the pairing of the beets with onion confit and watercress coulis. Even with Saint-Maurre cheese, this dish was still easy on the palate — a great starter especially before a heavy mains.
I had a very high expectation on this dish — Le Bœuf and thus, to my dismay, it fell short. Actually, there was only one bummer in this dish: the 'main cast' US Prime Striploin, which turned out to be really gamey and rather inconsistent in texture. Out of the three cuts, only one was nicely done to medium rare despite the perfectly looking marbling on the surface of all the three cuts. This, perhaps, had to do with the thick cut of the beef, making it harder to control the doneness during cooking. That aside, I fell in love with the potato and leek mille feuille topped with blended leeks. The thin layers of potato and leeks were skillfully executed, with a good contrast of starchy and sweet flavour. The onion fondant, besides being aesthtetically pleasing, gave a distinct nuance to the whole dish. It definitely had the potential to be the best dish of the set lunch meal.
Our personal favourite is the croissant with escargot and salad, but pictured was the fillet salmon with baby spinach and butter rice, which is equally mouth-watering. Their dishes sound so simple yet are executed so well and friendly-priced without robbing your bank account.
Tender and juicy chicken with thick creamy home-made Mushroom Sauce
The mashed potato hidden below the duck leg is truly flavourful, not overly creamy or salty. With the tender and well cooked duck leg, the dish is really wonderful. They could, however, add more sautéed mushrooms (well, i'm just pure biased here because i love mushrooms). Has always been and will always be my favourite spot for french food :)
I was expecting a plate of dry, garlicky and buttery (or oily) escargots like a typical escargot dish as an entrée. Yet, what came to me was a totally different rendition of escargot. Unpretentious, delectable and one-of-a-kind. While the croissant is soaking in the strong flavourful tomato-ey sauce, the escargot itself is juicy and sweet. Simply irresistible.
