Cheat Meals
Underwhelming chimaek experience with the mother a couple of weeks ago… and this was accentuated by the fact we had queued on a Saturday night for close to an hour.
The soybean paste stew also didn’t wow the golden palates especially when mum had just return from South Korea. That said the place draws a crowd for fuss free casual Korean dining.
And we will choose BHC our new favourite Korean fried chicken over this any day.
That Zermett recommended salted egg chicken that was decent at best.
But nice place for zichar if u r around the area 😬
At an office get together, a colleague said this was a must order at peperoni and she was right. Beyond the reliable pizzas Peperoni offers, explaining its numerous locations that had braved the competitive food scene in SG; don’t forget to get these succulent chicken wings with a mildly spicy sauce!
Only after working for 3 years around the area we find ourselves having this lip-smacking Filipino pork belly. I guess never too late?
Some might prefer the Chinese crackling skin against the flat crunchy skin of Lechon but the pork meat was absolutely delicious. An order of the Milkfish Sinigang helps balance the meat galore with a tangy stew; also the milkfish is soft but I suggest avoiding the skin that reminds you of the fish’s life form in a stale water body.
Would you believe me if I said this was my first shake shack burger in Singapore?
There are clear reasons why the establishment has steadily grown to 9 outlets across our little red dot. Firstly these were some of the freshest burgers I’ve had of late with a nicely grilled beef patty, exuberant looking and fresh vegetables with this tangy chopped red peppers I adored in my hamburger.
Our orders also came swiftly (<10 min) even with a relative full house and I loved the help yourself to condiments kiosks, this is quality fast food that you’d gladly pay a premium for.
What the brain registers the stomach gets, one of the birthday meals had to be fried food with beer and you get a very good deal here.
The menu details an assortment of craft pints at affordable member’s prices and we easily downed 2 each. The food here consists of mostly comfort bar grub- we got fries, deep fried buttermilk chicken, fish and chips with a good batter to coat the generic fish fillet; and more meat with the pork belly crackling.
An hour later you see polished plates, empty glasses and everyone having a chill time!

My brain has registered beer and fried food as comfort eating, so I was sad I couldn’t try the regular menu when I visited as the pop up menu from Nice Rice was ongoing. All was not lost as there was still “chicken Karage” and Japanese Shishamo - good beer food with the excellent craft beers here. I am no beer connoisseur but my pint of draft Piney Minogue was everything I’d like, coming from a female palate, tart and tangy. The straightforward young masters IPA on draft was also a good option to end off a quick dinner catch up here!
When there’s nothing to eat at home and u feel peckish 😂
I knew I could leave any diet plans I loftily have in mind (and hardly act upon 😂), at the door after stepping into Mother Dough. Because even the above 2 left over bakes were tempting enough (time check: 4pm on a Saturday). I first gave the chocolate brownie a shot and it proved itself as a confident square with hard crisp crust and a rich dense gooey like center; truly the gold standard of real brownies.
When we ordered the lemon drizzle it was an equally indulgent, adequately moist butter cake with lemon zest and an icing sugar coat.
Thankfully I shared the 2 with my mother aka partner in crime and we preferred the decadent brownie with a generous scoop of nuts evenly spread in the cake. The yellow cake was not as evenly mixed with jolts of zest in some bites and an absence in others.
I was here for the croissants and shall be back for the croissants.
Because vegan meals give you a (false) perception that you can digest more food- we had a Gorgonzola pizza at 10pm-ish on a Friday night; the pinnacle of a TGIF sort of “feast”.
At this fusion Korean western food joint, draft beers are 1 for 1 all night on a Friday (I believe) to encourage you to order from the extensive food menu; which houses perfect accomplices to a night of drinking. The “pizzas” here come on a soft and thin tortilla base wrap, completely saddled with the generous toppings of different variants of cheese, with the blue cheese being the most prominent. The chopped nuts and cranberries were also conventional pairings to the various artisan cheese.
On the occasion I succumb to patronise the Golden Arches (mainly because of convenience and availability); the creamy chicken pie tasted good and something I would definitely order again when the former reasons arise.
