Slightly rare but tender and juicy, bursting with flavour - this was worth every dollar... especially since it only cost $18!

My first experience with Uma Uma was meh many years ago. You could easily get a better bowl of tonkatsu ramen elsewhere. But then a friend introduced the maze soba to me. And there was no turning back. Springy dry ramen noodles served with an onsen egg and umami sauce. Who could ever resist?

At $58 for 100g, this beef does not come cheap. While it does melt in your mouth, I much preferred the ox tongue that we had. Remember - premium prices for premium beef.

Keisuke strikes again. The newest offshoot - a steak teppanyaki outlet.
Choose from 2 menu items (the other option being the triple cheese prime Hamburg steak set), and 4 sauces (original, teriyaki mayo, demiglas and oroshi ponzu) - both come with a salad buffet.
It's ridiculously affordable ($18.80-$20.80) and actually pretty good. Those Japanese style omelettes prepared as part of the buffet are to die for.

Possibly the best bowl of unagi in Singapore. Chargrilled to perfection, with lovely crisp that adds a crunch on every bite, yet ever so tender on the inside. There are 3 ways you can enjoy this awesomeness, and I can't choose my favourite. Is it with wasabi/negi or with some of that amazing dashi? You tell me.
My only regret - not getting the large version. Those reviews weren't lying - you're gonna want more of that unagi.
Go at lunch - the queues are more manageable.

Oden is ever synonymous with Japanese comfort food. Popped by on a chilly evening post yoga sesh and found the izakaya filled with locals and Japanese alike.

Beef katsu! I love tonkatsu so it's no surprise that I'm a sucker for this too. Choose the done-ness of your steak fillet by grilling it yourself on their hot plates. Also helps that it's decently priced $24.90 for a 90g cutlet set. More please!

Scrumptious Kani, Uni, Otoro and Ikura cascading out of this maki roll. Each bite tasted of the ocean and was ah-mazing.

Checking out this new kid on the block in my Neighbourhood and have to say it's pretty decent. Juicy tonkatsu, washed down with Yuzu flavoured miso soup... I only wished the portions were bigger. Word has it that they do a decent rendition of tonkatsu ramen too, and if the chefs previous ventures were anything to go by, this is certainly worth trying too.

While the name suggests soba, this is really a dry ramen dish. Served with a soft boiled egg and your choice of toppings, this was one bowl of umami goodness. Go for their signature Nagoya Mazesoba, or the all in. Free upgrade to 1.5 portion of ramen too!

Braved the queues and haze to try out this tempura joint by the Keisuke team. The portion of tempura is generous and literally overflowing. The ebi was ever so fresh and the tempura batter was pretty good in all honesty, although if they could improve the ventilation t'would be great.
