Despite the stall here having its roots from Bendemeer Food Centre 26 years ago, the owner had been in the Char Kway Teow business for even longer as a helper in his brother's stall for many years!

The Char Kway Teow ($3) is served slightly wet and bursting with flavour, as it absorbed the wok hei taste! The ingredients here are cooked optimally so that they don't turn dry and retain their freshness! Cockles lover will love the ones here, which are both big and juicy!

One of the only stalls here to sell Fried Kway Teow Mee and Fried Sotong Mee (the Fried Hokkien Mee rendition here), Zhang Fa is probably a secluded stall hidden apart from the other known dinner stalls here! This Char Kway Teow ($3) was rather flavourful despite having no lard and lup cheong added and had the wok hei, though being a tad too dry and just mildly spicy, the taste is just not enough.

Zhang Fa is located at Tanglin Halt (Commonwealth Dr) Food Centre, #01-37, Block 3A Commonwealth Dr, S(140003) and is opened from 8.30am - 8.30pm daily.

Prices are at $2.50/$3/$4/$5 a plate. Having 2 stalls at Circuit Road Food Centre that sells Char Kway Teow previously, one has now moved to Whampoa Makan Place while this one remained. A truly unique combination as the stall assistant here converse in English or dialect, the Char Kway Teow ($3) is fried with small pieces of char siew instead of lard, the cockles are not fried with the noodles and thin kway teow similar to the ones used for phad thai are used here. A tiger prawn is given for the bigger portions. The combination was indifferent from the other good char kway teows! It had the wok hei, is spicy and comes in quite a generous portion too, though this is more towards a savoury plate as sweetness is minimised. Besides being spicy, chilli sauce that tasted like a spicer version of chicken rice chilli is also served!

The most favourite childhood dish I patronize here, the taste of the Char Kway Teow ($3) has remained the same throughout the years I have been having it. The uncle, who had been operating here since 3 decades ago with another auntie, never fails to fry a good plate of Char Kway Teow! The variant here is wet, sweet and slightly spicy, which may not appeal to some who may prefer their plate to be more dry. Uncle always makes it a point to fry it extra wet for me!

One great example of a young hawker being able to fry such a nice plate of CKT!

Prices here ranges from $3/$4/$5/$7. The Char Kway Teows here are topped with generous amounts of chye sim that can be compared to 91 Fried Kway Teow. Although lard isn't used in the frying process, this plate of Char Kway Teow ($4) still tasted great and comes with a mild but distinct wok hei taste, sweet and comes in an abundance of bean sprouts and cockles.

Prices are at $2.50/$3. The stall used to sell Fried Kway Teow/Hokkien Mee/Carrot Cake at $2 but had to increase their prices at least a year ago. This Char Kway Teow ($2.50) may not be one of the best Char Kway Teow due to the absence of lard and lup cheong, but the taste, eggy-ness and sweetness of this char kway teow is just right and make up for the lackings, including the mild flavour of wok hei in this.

At $2.50/$3 a plate, this place is also the only place to serve Char Kway Teow ($2.50 for this serving) with an optional choice of Otah ($1). Huge portions with substantial amount of lup cheong and cockles but would have tasted better if there is more wok hei in this plate. The Otah here are made in a bigger portion that is spiced just right.

Prices are at $3/$4 a plate. 91 Fried Kway Teow Mee is known for producing a char kway teow that is not fried using pork or lard and does not fry its greens with the noodles, choosing to instead top it on the noodles with small fried anchovies. The result is a plate of noodles ($3) that is only fried with the cockles and beansprouts, which doesn't have the extra kick despite being rather sweet and having the wok hei.

Prices are at $3/$4/$5 a plate. On the first mouthful, this Fried Kway Teow ($4) may undermine the stall's strong queue as the wok hei of the fried kway teow is slightly lesser than others of its trade, but its flavour easily overwhelms that and keeps the long queue standing strong. The noodles are slippery, slurpy and comes with generous amounts of lard and cockles!
