True to Teppei style, Hanare offers two value-for-money buffet options: full buffet at $19.90 (one main dish + free flow of 20 side dish options) or bara set at $17.90 (chirashi don + free flow of 4 side dish options). While the full buffet had interestingly respectable dishes like whole garlic cloves cooked in Japanese spice, I much preferred the bara set. Topped with an incredibly generous portion of fresh chunky pieces of sashimi like salmon, tuna, scallop, surf clam, swordfish and roe, the chirashi was incredibly indulgent, save for the overpowering sesame dressing. If you're ordering this, you might probably want to request for the dressing on the side. Be sure to head down early; by 12:30pm, the 42-seater was packed with a dozen PMEBs waiting in line. Definitely worth the money, and best of all, you won't need to make a reservation two months in advance. #foodporn #foodreview #foodie #hanare #japanese #food #chirashi #sashimi
Good news for those who have missed Chef Shen Tan's signature Nasi Lemak, you can savour it again at the newly opened Ujong. Of course, other dishes are worth a try too, but be prepared to pay quite a bit more than you're used to, with dishes averaging $20 a pop! Here's what Tastemaker Rachel says about the Hae Bee Hiam Mentaiko Capellini- "One of my favourite dishes here has to be this: thin coils of pasta emollient with garlic-and-prawn-stock butter, dotted with crispy lardons, and slicked with an unexpectedly creamy dried shrimp and mentaiko paste. Keep a glass of water on hand because this dish packs a hefty dose of heat."
This beautiful new concept from Bali has taken over Keong Saik's iconic Tong Ah Kopitiam, and is thankfully serving great food in an inviting space. Tuck into a Three Buns burger on the whimsical second floor, and move upstairs to the third floor bar for a drink, or the rooftop garden if the weather permits.
In this new urban/edgy/bare brick Tras St spot, having Italian for dinner has gotten a lot more fun. Don't miss the Pulled Pork & Waffle fries ($15), perfectly fluffy homemade Gnocchi ($21), and the (omg wait for it) - Triple Cheese & Truffle Toasty at $15. Finish with a gorgeous Cannoli with whipped ricotta and lemon.
