The Sweet Stuff
November 16/17 only… pop by Heart of Darkness on Tras St to try out this pairing of beers with cake specially curated by neighbouring patisserie Nesuto.
The pairings…
1.
🍰🍺 Citrus Meringue Tart paired with Conquistador's Mexican Pilsner
2.
🍰🍺 Coconut Pineapple Panna Cotta paired with Dream Alone Pale Ale
3.
🍰🍺 Chocolate Cherry Pudding paired with Director's Cacao Nib Porter
4.
🍰🍺 Tiramisu Coffee Tart Paired With Excited Magpie Dry Irish Stout
My favourite pairing would be the Tiramisu X Stout as I'm more a fan of stout vs. beer, plus I'm a caffeine addict, so the coffee notes just hit the spot.
The pudding and porter pairing is also delightfully creamy and chocolatey.
If you like your hoppy beers, you'd probably like the pale ale and panna cotta pairing.
And the pilsner paired with citrus tart is light and refreshing. Best to start with this and work your way though the heavier flavours. That way you'll also leave the best (stout X coffee tart) for last. 😄
Available from 11.00am–10.30pm, but get in earlier if you want to just sit back, chill and savour the flavours.

The pretty and very delicious Lychee Sakura Flower Crystal Jelly at Crystal Jade. A simple and refreshing dessert to have after a feast during CNY. 🌸 There's lychee spheres on the side that burst with sweet lychee flavour when popped in the mouth. And the gold leaf just makes the dessert look a little bit more prestige. 😍

The only reason I'd travel out to ABC Brickworks is go have this see dessert. Mango ice with a dollop of durian puree on top. The durian is one of the most flavourful around. 😋
This is the Hell Valley Volcano from Typhoon Cafe situated in Plaza Singapura. This chocolatey volcano dessert pours out smoke then warm chocolate is poured over it to make it easier to cut. Once sliced open, hidden within the volcano are cubes of blondie and vanilla ice cream to go with the Oreo crumble, citrus compote and berries.
A very dramatic dessert if you’re looking for something photo-worthy and a little fun. Perfect for those who like more rich, chocolatey desserts.

Wobbly goodness. This clear 'cake' has just the right consistency. The the others I've tried around Singapore are either too soft or too solid. Eat it with the brown sugar syrup and some soy powder for flavour as the jelly itself is tasteless.
I'm not a huge fan of waffles, but I had to try this when I saw it on the menu cos it's mochi waffles. Mochi makes my world go round. ☺️
Stretchy like texture of mochi as I expected, the waffles were ok but this could've been better with more fruits and contrasting syrup to break up the taste a little. We were advised to go with chocolate or salted speculous flavoured froyo on the side, but vanity for our cameras took over and we picked lychee rose for the colour. But what an awful mistake to make. 😂 Stick to the chocolaty or speculous flavours for this Matcha mochi waffle! Suits it much better than the fruity flavours.
Can never pass up getting a thyme infused cone and gelato/sorbet when visiting the east. The waffle cones are so fragrant, you can smell them cooking from the bridge crossing the road to Birds of Paradise. There's still an insane queue for the gelato even minutes before the shop closes. White Chrysanthemum seems to be a popular choice, but I prefer the fruity flavours like Mango and Lychee Raspberry.
Truly wholesome Watercress Soup with sous-vide poached egg and served with gluten-free fried bread.
You definitely need to love your veggies and watercress to like this soup cos it has a bitter after-taste. But if you're ok with that, this rich soup has a super smooth texture with sweetness from Wolfberries, and the addition of the poached egg adds an extra comforting touch.
This is suitable for Vegetarians and is gluten-free and dairy-free too.

When dessert calls we always want to try EVERYTHING on the menu. And we did (well there were only 2 options).
This Pandan Tiramisu didn't really suit our tastebuds even though we love coffee. Maybe it was the Pandan twist. The coffee is strong, the cake a little too dense. I think I prefer my Tiramisu with more light cream. This was served with crunchy sticky caramel popcorn which can't really go wrong.

These little buns shaped like chicks and hedgehogs are too cute to resist ordering. However, the cuteness does come at a little bit of a sacrifice with the bun dough being slightly thick and dry. The filling can be a little sweet and overwhelming, so probably keep ordering portions to 1 per person. But still order these for a little cuteness in your day.
Adulting means having a little bit of alcohol in everything. Like this Honey Bourbon Créme Brulee at Meat Smith! Hints of honey while the custard itself wasn't overly sweet. The torched shell was fun to crack through. A good end to a night of good food and drinks. 🍸
