Anyone who is going to Penang MUST try this Chinese heritage restaurant!

Must!! We ordered the sweet and tangy double roasted pork with chilli padi, fragrant dragon spinach, fresh assam prawn and steamed fish. Only. With rice and drinks, our bill came up to about RM100 only - would have ordered twice as much, it was a pity that my company wasn't hungry. But to be fair, they had 2 breakfasts before this lunch...whoever has 2 breakfasts right? Except when one is in Penang?

Breakfast at Kheng Pin Cafe famous for its Lor Bak - deep fried snacks - (fresh squid, tasty pork rolls, crispy prawn fritters, sweet fish cake, fragrant beancurd, comforting sweet potatoes and yam).

Just like ngor hiang but better, and it's only RM10, and it's very, very nice! And of course we tried the wanton mee and lor mee at RM5 each - so so only. We were still very sleepy due to late night before....

Willing ourselves to feel hungry at a cost of a 15-mins walk to a "nearby" cafe, we thankfully disappeared into the dark and cosy interior of this cheerful hideout.

Aircon was on full blast, just nice for some beer and soda, waffles and a few rounds of Dai Di.

Our first meal after a 12-hour bus ride (+ 3 hours crossing customs) - Penang street food: chendol @ RM2.90, assam laksa @ RM4, char kway tiao @ RM4, popiah & chee cheong fun @ RM5.80, oyster omelette @ RM15.

Our verdict: Oyster omelette is the best of the lot - surprisingly a generous serving of large and fresh oysters fried with fragrant eggs and garlic chilli (Pauline swore their eggs were different) and, no flour! Delish!

We were feeling a little dejected in this hot weather and was wandering around our hotel.

Very glad that this cafe came our path. Service was fantastic as it was evident that all the staff took pride in maintaining the ambience of the cafe - clean, neat, quiet and cosy. And we felt like ordering all the cakes on the shelves!

This is something unrefined about the Oreo cheesecake that makes it more endearing - it's very chocolatey and biscuity and cheesy but very light - one of the best Oreo cheesecake I have had.

Belgium hot chocolate is sensational and I could have it any time to calm my nerves. Mocha is good too.
