My first attempt on The Lokal's breakfast plate despite my many visits there. It's a mix-and-match of various ingredients you would fancy eating for breakfast, and we chose Scrambled Eggs, Sautéed Mushrooms and Smoked Salmon. The house-cured Smoked Salmon was pretty unlike the ones we get at other cafés; usually pre-packaged, thinly sliced in dainty portions. This one came in a slab, and was not only fresh but thoroughly cured so you could taste the smoked flavour of cherrywood chips used to smoke the salmon; pretty impressive. Sautéed Mushrooms were a nice bite and juicy, bursting with its earthy flavour while the scrambled eggs were one of the creamiest yet eggy and flavourful ones that I ever tried. Definitely fit for those looking for some solid and satisfying meal to start the day with.
Back again in less than 24 hours but this was a planned trip some time ago. We had the Earl Grey, Salted Butterscotch (which I had with the waffle yesterday), Horlicks Panda and White Chocolate Speculoo flavours. Earl Grey has a strong tea aroma to it that's pretty soothing for a hot day, while the White Chocolate Speculoo tasted of thick Milk Chocolate with cookie dough spiked with spices such as ginger and cinnamon though both flavours are a bit grainy due to its condiments. The Horlicks Panda is not a flavour that immediately appeals to most, but slowly lures you in with its malty taste with a hint of biscuit bit flavours.
Great french bakery in the CBD area. Lemon tarts here are always spot on for me. At $5 a tart, you'll fall in love with the fluffy meringue instantly.
