Really enjoyed this dish. Meat was soft, tender and fresh. The kind where you feel the texture with your teeth. Incredible value for money at $6.50.
Located at 121 Joo Chiat Road is the spacious, breezy eatery called "Long & Yean Superior Kway Teow Soup" that specialises in Johor Bahru-style "kway teow". Their signature namesake dish costs $6.50 and has all sorts of seafood besides the usual fishball, minced pork, liver and pork slices. I was drawn more to the $4 "Traditional Kway Teow Dry" as the black sauce fascinated me. Really glad I ordered that because the sauce was tasty indeed. Somehow it had a lot of flavour despite its plain looks. I am sure it's to do with the pork oil they have in there. Probably the same reason why the silky narrow strands of rice noodles were easily and evenly coated after a quick toss. In terms of the ingredients, they are quite generous, serving them in a bowl of soup as large as the bowl in which the noodles came in. This place is open Mon to Fri from 11.15am-10.45pm, and 10.15am-10.15pm on weekends.
Aglio Olio 🍝 I dare say that this is one of the best tasting Aglio Olio's that I've had in a long while. Each bite is packed with flavour. The amount of garlic was just right, the mushrooms that were an add on were juicy and flavorable, the pasta, done Al Dente. And this dish wasn't drenched in olive oil unlike some of the others I had. For $4.70 and an extra $1 for mushrooms, I would say that it's hard to find a better tasting and wallet friendly pasta.
