Overseas treats
Starting a long drive on Great Ocean Road. No other way than to use this homely cafe as a start point. Mini green-house-like organic cafe. Beyond this waffle breakfast, you must try the home-made banana and walnut bread.
Not the usual connoiseur-like posts. No hiding behind the sweet freshness when you simply steam a 1kg lobster and savour it with a good whisky. My preferred choice over lobster rolls anyday
Another typical nondescript shophouse until you realise people come and buy bakzhang (dumplings) in bulk. Made in batches throughout the day, do make advance orders for these nonya zhang. Good mix of pork and chestnuts in the dumpling and well infused with the mushroom flavour. Not forgeting the chendol which contained one of the best pure gula melaka tasted in this foodie trip
Best satay ever. Best. Hainanese kopi-tiam with a hainanese satay stall which only opens from 11-4pm till sold out. Just as a glutton gauge, wife and I had 40 sticks and that was just 1.5hrs after lunch. Must try
Basically sticks and sticks of food cooked in satay sauce. At RM$1/stick. Its a steal. The seafood is fresh and if you are game, go for the udang besar (big prawns @RM$6.50each).
Had to try how this chain compares to Chung Wah. The rice balls were bland and dry and the chilli lacked the "kick" which we are used too. The chicken was slightly overcooked and tough. The charsiew was best amongst the pick, on the sweet side with fatty cuts. I stick to Chung Wah, the queue is there for a reason
Banana flower cooked in coconut milk and a dash of chilli and dried shrimps. Jantung is truly one of the most unique flavours in the region. The usual flavours and styles are all there, buah keluah, asam pedas and more
The type of springy noodles laden with lard and onion oil. Nondescript dark looking kopitiams serve the best food.
Crispy skin surface, succulent and juicy flesh encapsulated within. Also try the salt baked sardines, fried rice and of course, drowned and downed with sangria. Perfect!
Supposedly the authentic chicken rice balls. It was fantastic.. Until i ate the chicken rice balls at my hotel's breakfast buffet. Tasted similar and the balls were warm.. Try if you must for the experience. Beware, the queue is at least 30mins.
Udang assam nanas, Lor Bak, chincalok egg and potato leaves in belachan. Yummeh
Yummehz.. Durian flavoured, Gula Melaka and ice shavings with red beans and chendol strings
