One of the best Char Kuey Teow place in Georgetown. What makes them famous is they use charcoal to cook Char Kuey Teow instead of using Liquefied Petroleum Gas. To be honest the taste is different using different kind of fuel for cooking. Ordered the Char Kuey Teow (RM10) that serve with three big prawns, bean sprouts and some cockles. Don't ask for extra spicy or no spicy, it might not taste like what it should be. If you worry bout the hot weather, they do have Ice Kacang too.
Full of wok hei with big succulent prawns char kuey teow. One small plate like this is Rm10 but I say it's worth it. The coffee shop is not too crowded, when I visited on the Hari Raya weekend around 11am. Walked away with a happy stomach 😃
Char Kway Teow is a teochew-hokkien fried flat rice noodle dish originating from the island of Penang. This dish is fried wth prawns, cockles and beansprouts, with some versions adding fish cakes, Chinese sausage and pork lard. The key ingredient for a good char kway Teow is for the noodles to be fried over charcoal with enough "wok hei", ensuring the dish have a slight burnt taste to it.

Lorong Selamat char kway teow is one of the most famous versions you can find in Penang, and you can easily see why. The noodles are fried well, with enough wok hei, leaving that charred and burnt umami taste. The use of lard also makes the dish more fragrant, and the highlight of the char kway teow here, really is the giant sized prawns. It's almost like you're having prawns with a side of kway teow. A word of caution: for a great time, only go when its the old aunty frying.

Super cheap, and damn good to have on a hot day. Interestingly, this place used Sarsi/root beer and no gula melaka, which was a nice difference to me from the ones in SG. The scoop of ice cream was just plain vanilla ice cream, but at this kind of price, you can't really complain. Not as sweet or heavy as the SG variant.

Heralded as the best char kway teow in Penang, the places is perpetually crowded,not with tourists but rather the locals which is a tell tale sign of its authenticity. The char koay teow was really the best out of all we ate while in Penang. The noodles were oily enough such that it wasn't dry or sticking to each other, but not overly greasy. The prawns were really fresh and succulent, and was spicy, salty, and just so delicious.There were sinful cubes of pork lard hidden inside which is just the icing on top of the cake really. The bad part about this place is that it is always crowded and hard to get seats, and you can be prepared to wait 30 mins to 1 hour for your food. It's also pricier compared to other places such that it's almost SG price you're paying, but at least you get what you pay for here. At least he exchange rate is low now so it wasn't that bad.
There was an hour line for the more famous char koay teow next door at Lorong Selamat coffee shop, so we came here instead. Gotta say this was amazing anyway so no loss. Nice wok hei, crispiness to the fried egg and firm, bouncy prawns. The laksa was also pretty good but the other one near Chowrasta market was better.
