You just gotta head down immediately when @ieatishootipost annointed @ashessgburnnit as one of his top three burgers under $10.

Ashes is a hawker stall at the Army Market which specialises in smashed burgers and the good ol' Mac and cheese. A smashed burger is one where the burger patty is purposely pressed down onto the hot grill to maximise the surface area for "browning" (scientific term: Maillard reaction) to take place. The patties are usually thinner and less juicy but with stronger flavour profiles (life is never perfect guys). For $6 to $9, you get a single burger at Ashes. A double goes between $8 to $12. And it comes with a good helping of crispy thick-cut fries!

I had a double truffle mushroom burger. I liked that their potato buns are soft and fluffy and yet substantial enough to hold the juices and the burgers together. You can taste the strong beefy flavours of the patty and the nice earthy aftertaste of sauteed mushrooms and truffle cream in every bite. The patty was a little overcooked and dry but that's me nitpicking really.

Verdict: This is an excellent burger on its own and really hard to beat when it comes value for money. There is no need to decide if Ashes or Hammee's is better because both burgers are great IMHO.
