Very enjoyable meal. The chilli oil bringing forth the umami and spiciness from Broad bean sauce and dried chillis. There was little to no numbing flavour from the typical mala, good for those who don't like that part of mala
The fish was well seasoned and grilled prior, giving a nice smoky flavour. The oils of the fish were also nicely rendered and added to the fragrance that would not have been achieved by just cooking the fish in the broth.
The sides of Chinese long cabbage and potatoes did a great job absorbing all the flavours. Overall an excellent meal. Was so spicy but yet addictive giving a masochistic pleasure bite after bite
