🎅🏻🤶🏻 Just for Christmas, @iluvahmahsg had a 1 for 1 promotion at all its outlet (FREE original castella with ANY cake purchase). Glad to have brave the 1 hour queue and got a freshly baked batch of matcha and original 💛💚. Though the matcha flavour was mild and barely detectable (which is a disappointment for hardcore matchaholics like me), I still adore the soft and fluffy texture of the castella cake that’s sufficiently moist and pillowy. The cotton-like spongy texture makes it a perfect afternoon treat, a great pairing with a cup of hot tea or coffee 🍵☕️. Best eaten warm when it’s freshly baked out of the oven but I had mine chilled and I still love it. In fact, I prefer having the green tea castella chilled rather than warm! As for the original cake, I personally feel it tasts better when warm, with a soft and spongy texture that is fragrant and delightful, like a traditional steam egg cake. Having tried all flavours, my personal favourite is cheese, with a thick layer of gooey, melted cheese sandwiched within the soft, spongy original cake .
