We were running some errands nearby when we passed by the back of a shop which had pictures of "peking duck" pasted all over and smelled absolutely heavenly in the rain. Needless to say, we had to pop in for some grub.
@yanchuanroaster is a fast food concept restaurant that gives me the Kenny Rogers vibes. It specialises in roast meats and in particular, "Peking Duck".
There is a reason why inverted commas are used. For the avoidance of doubt, you are not getting the shattering crisp skin a la Quanjude but its "cousin", a Cantonese style roast duck instead.
I was kinda disappointed but at $16 per duck (which is considered cheap even for a Cantonese style roast duck), I really ought to have known better 🤦♂️.
I did however enjoy their roast duck. The meat was tender and juicy and more importantly, well marinated. There was none of the gamey flavours which we associate with duck meat. Paired with the thick and sweet plum sauce, this was good with rice.
I am not usually a fan of duck meat but considering the price point ($16 for a whole large duck), it is certainly good value and satisfying!
P.S. anyone has a recommendation for peking duck which doesn't break the bank?
