Made a recent revisit to Durian Lab Café — it has been quite some time since the last time we have had the MSW Durian Sago, but it was also for this new item that is a collaboration between Durian Lab Cafe and Keong Saik Bakery which is only available on weekends.

Not an item that is unfamiliar to me, this is a re-hash of Keong Saik Bakery’s Mama’s Kueh Salat — given how this is a collaboration with Durian Lab Cafe, the Kueh Salat sees the addition of a layer of Mao Shan Wang Durian mousse that replaces that of the Pandan mousse and Pandan cake layer in the original version served at Keong Saik Bakery. In fact, between the two, I seemingly enjoyed the MSW Kueh Salat a little more — perhaps it’s how the durian mousse layer just seemed to carry a more consistent texture to Kueh Salat against the sticky and soft layer of glutinous rice that comes slightly savoury; all that whilst being distinctly pungent, but strangely not overly sweet or particularly overwhelming as it’s buttery aroma perfumes through to the MSW Kueh Salat without drowning out the soft hint of Pandan fragrance from the fluffy Pandan cake layer below.

Not sure why is it the case, but I found myself usually enjoying the creations that are made in collaboration with Keong Saik Bakery more than the ones done in collaboration with Flor Patisserie whenever I am at Durian Lab Cafe. That being said, I like how they always try to slide in something new every now and then just to keep things refreshing for returning patrons — not to mention their MSW Durian Sago is something to die for (at least for me).
