Pork Ribs Prawn Noodles (#02-31) @ Tiong Bahru Market and food center
I must say that I had expected quite a lot out of this dish. Wouldn't say I was sorely disappointed but I wasn't particularly wowed either. Despite that it is still a rather pleasant dish to have on a nice Sunday morning.
Highlights of the dish:
The PRAWN MEE SOUP. The commonly neglected bowl of soup that accompanies this dry mee is phenomenal. Granted I usually avoid prawn mee because it sometimes or most of the time, the soups too "腥", too "hei mee-ish". Rather off putting imo. Just like failed prawn bisque soups. So I haven't had that many prawn mee soups. Nonetheless, this soup is truly delectable and quite addictive. Kinda almost finished my mini bowl of it. It has the perfect balance between sweet and savory. The prawn essence permeates the soup beautifully. The prawn flavour is front and center yet enhanced by the genius combination of herbs/spices that the towkay brews in the dark mysterious delicious Broth.
The Pork ribs are quite good as well. Which is ironic since this is prawn mee but whatever. Not the most tender but quite flavourful, esp when it'd mixed with the dry prawn mee sauce.
Wrt to the prawns and the meefen. I felt that they fell quite short for me. The prawns were quite over cooked although they come PEELED (at least at the body. The tail and head are still intact). The meefen was on the dry side and quite stuck to each other as well. So it really dampened the whole eating experience quite a bit.
Nonetheless, I'm quite excited to try the soup version of this! Gimme some of that soup!!!
