I chanced upon this bakery at Toa Payoh North as I picked up some salad a few units away, and I saw some decorated cupcakes sitting there, perhaps waiting for me. I browsed the selection, picked four cupcakes, and was ready to pay. The hypnosis was broken when the staff told me the price: S$15.20. That’s the same as S$3.80 per cupcake.
“Woah! Is this a social enterprise or what?” It turned out that my quick search on the Internet did not match with the derivation. Probably just some overpriced cupcakes.
And when I really tried the cupcakes, I learnt that the chef had pumped in the corresponding cream and sauces to the core of the cupcake, before decorating the top with the right toppings. However, some cupcakes had indeed fallen short of expectations, like the Salted Fudge Cupcake (back). In fact, among the four that I had picked, I might have liked the Chocolate Cream Cheese Cupcake (left) the most.
To conclude, yes, they are pretty cupcakes, but given such a price, it’s better to choose carefully. And yes, ask for the price before filling your box.
