I have never heard about Kacang pool until I saw and decided to try it out. This rarely seen dish, is a stew made of broad beans and mashed into a mushy texture.
Over at Aiman Cafe’s Malayan Delights, the kacang pool consists of chunky mashed beans, fresh onion slices, fresh cut green chilis, and a sunny side up with a runny yolk slabbed in the middle. On first look, it was somewhat like the mee rebus gravy. Other than its spiciness, the kacang pool is actually a combination of sharp and nutty flavours. Fresh lime was also given, which thankfully toned down the pickiness of the onions and chilis. Served with toasted baguette, I enjoyed dipping the bread and having all the spicy, beany, eggy flavors with a rich mouthfeel all at a go, except that it was a little diluted.
