This one’s a bit of a drive away but it’s worth the trip! Hidden in a quieter area of the otherwise bustling Sri Petaling, Menya Shi Shi Do has all your ramen bases, if not more. From classic pork and spicy pork soups to black garlic, curry and “thunder” spicy pork soups. Went a little out of character and tried something different from my usual “if they can’t do a classic right, they ain’t right”.
Couldn’t resist the green in the Basil Pork soup that comes with all the standard trimmings - black fungus, pork shoulder, runny soft boiled egg, spring onion and “special sauce”. First try and I was hooked. It’s light but rich (??? is that possible) basil broth was just delicious and a definite crowd-pleaser. Contrary to the looks, the herby basil taste came off surprisingly subtle in this one, which I think is great lest it gets ‘jelak’-y after a while. Came during a rainy Sunday evening and tucking into this bowl was like getting a big hug in noodle form. So good. Will def go back.
